Thank you for all the replies and helpful tips to my post a few days ago re my weight loss with Bronchiectasis. I have made a list of advice and also of the replies to 2013mayo's post which asked a similar question.
Amazingly after a few months of trying hard I have now gained 2lbs and I am expecting to continue to gain weight if I continue eating as I am. I wouldn't want to continue eating how I am eating long term though due to the high dairy content and in particular adding cream twice a day to meals, as I think it could increase cholestrol. I am hoping when I have reached a desired weight I can slacken off a bit.
As well as eating 6 times a day I have increased fat intake with cream, nuts and raw chocholate, but I am interested in what Nula's dietician said about the y shape with high protein and carbs and less veg and fruit. I eat a lot of fruit and veg and so I am going to reduce it and increase protein and carbs.
I had a chat with another GP who has now agreed to refer me to a dietician but as that may take some time I may find one privately to make sure I can maintain the weight in a healthy way. She told me they would only refer me back to the respiratory team for a CT scan if I had a persistent chest infection and that many people with lung conditions have had more chest infections that usual recently so they are not referring to hospital for that reason.
Maintaining my weight will probably be a continuing issue and something I will have to work on but I am pleased to be making some progress. For everyone else with this issue I wish you persistence and success in finding what works for you.
