I have been taking this for quite a while now and because of my drastic weight loss I decided to look at side effects for the medication I take and low and behold it is on the Lansoprazole.
I am going to see a dietician on the 8th and will mention it to her and then to my doc on the 9th.

Hi Toci my husband has taken Lansoprazole for some time amongst other meds. He has certainly not lost weight but as he is on oxygen 24/7 it maybe because he cannot really exercise. Good luck Jean
I might be clutching at straws but there must be a reason for it, doc says it is stress, I must admit I was not eating for a while but that has passed now and appetite ok and I am still loosing, I don't want to take tabs for stress.
Not much consolation I know, but most COPD patients seem to lose a considerable amount of weight, though then we regain with a vengeance! And I am sure this gain is mainly because of inactivity but I have no idea what causes the loss.
I take 2 Lansoprozole per day and certainly have not had any weight loss - just the opposite is my problem as I also take steroids daily. Mind you i don't have COPD but Pulmonary fibrosis and other conditions so this may be the reason. Hope you get it sorted out Polly.
If you are putting on weight but keeping reasonably fit it will be as a result of the steroids, I've been down that path with steroid meds but thankfully not on them any more. All the best for good health.
I take maintenance dose of Lansoprazole and I find it works well but not on my weight sadly. I have intentionally lost just over 3 stone though. Just another 2 to go! Stay well pollyjj. xxxx
I take lansoprazole 30 mg twice a day and am very thin, to the extent that its painful to sit on a hard chair. But I attribute the thinness to my emphysema. A BLF nurse told me once that it takes people with emphysema about ten times the calories to breathe compared to people who don't have it. So that could be part of the explanation. Also unless we exercise and do some weight lifting exercises our muscles tend to decondition and waste, which is why pulmonary rehab is so effective. Its good you are seeing a dietician and your gp. BLF nurses would be helpful too. Good luck, jean
I have been taking this drug. For the past three years with no side effects. I think. It's because we find it difficult to breath hence using more calories
Hi I have been taking the drug past few months the disperisble one had side effects but now changed and they are great, however I have them for hiatus hernia not for me copd, now the thing is because I can now eat food I hadnt been able to touch for years, I actually put weight on, I have already put a lot weight on since I gave up smoking, which I cant seem to shift.
I used to take lanzoprasole and found that the longer i was on it the more of the side effects i was getting. Since then i've been swapped to ranitidine and then on to omeprazole.
