I thought there was no cure for Asthma or COPD and you had it for life once diagnosed can remission or improvement be gained by good treatment management but what does a normal spirometry surely you still have it

Hi, I have asthma and bronchiectasis. I have had an occasional normal spirometry, usually when everything is completely under control and I've done a long stint with no infections and my asthma is under control.

I've also been unable to do the spirometry test a couple of times as not enough breath to blow. It's a tool for your consultant to see how you are doing and if adjustments need to made to your medication or at worst hospital admittance.

If you're feeling well and everything is under control, congratulations to you and your consultant/gp.

Quick answer. In asthma yes. You can, when your asthma is behaving itself have normal spirometry, but you still need to continue with the meds.

In copd it is unusual to completely reverse it, but you can minimise or even halt the progression.

That’s my understanding.

Hi

A few years back I received a pdf from a guy called Burton Linne . He wrote about how he prevented the worsening of his emphysema. (He does not claim to have reversed it but to halt its progression). If I knew how to send you the pdf I would gladly send it. It is called "How To Prevent, Halt, And Reverse COPD-Emphysema and Cure Cancer" (Yes I know he mentions "Reverse" here but I think in the text he says you can only HALT progression). I have followed his advice (but not fully) and I have noticed no apparent progression. so far. (I was first getting suspicious pains back in 2000 or so. Took little notice until 2012, I believe, and on the basis of only an X-Ray the doctor told me I had emphysema.). BRIEFLY he says eat no grains nor high GI foods. Avoid inflammation He takes supplements such as (very important) ASCORBIC ACID (he adds some sodium bicarbonate to neutralize the acid). Also L-LYSINE and PROLINE. These help to make COLLAGEN (it's collagen loss which you want to avoid and try to avoid inflamation). He takes NAC and used Organic silica (nebulized) only once or twice to clear his lungs., Black Cumin Seed Oil, Boswellia Extract, Bromelain + Quercitin, Boron, Benfotiamine. Vitamin D3..........etc I think I may add his other ingredients soon to make sure I get the "full package"! Obviously if you can, walk or do breathing exercises to keep lungs strong. He uses a blender and throws in ASparagus and drinks it! because it has NAC in it which produces glutathione.

Best of luck.

I have Asthma, COPD Emphysema, RLD and IPAH and for some reason I am now at a plateau My PH specialist does not understand why? My GP has told me that my COPD has reach the end of additional treatment to control it! I will not improve but I am happy with the fact it has not got worse and is in sorts behaving itself? Fingers crossed.

In my opinion, exercise helps all. It even improves inflammation. Do what you can to get off the couch. If you can't, do arm and leg exercises from seated position if you can.

I no longer ' have' asthma but 'a background of asthma'. Apparently this is because , with damage and disease, the lung structure changes.
