words on this plate -
When all aloud the wind doth blow
And coughing drowns the parson’s saw
And birds sit brooding in the snow
And Marion’s nose looks red and raw.

This is excerpted from Shakespeare's verse titled Winter.
Happy memories for me, as this poem was a piece I prepared as part of my Elocution classes at my beloved school, St. C's.
When icicles hang by the wall,
And Dick the shepherd blows his nail,
And Tom bears logs into the hall,
And milk comes frozen home in pail,
When blood is nipp’d and ways be foul,
Then nightly sings the staring owl,
Tu-whit;
Tu-who, a merry note,
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.
When all aloud the wind doth blow,
And coughing drowns the parson’s saw,
And birds sit brooding in the snow,
And Marion’s nose looks red and raw,
When roasted crabs hiss in the bowl,
Then nightly sings the staring owl,
Tu-whit;
Tu-who, a merry note,
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.
Lovely. And so apt for this time of year.
Thank you for bringing back to my mind and heart a slice of joy at an otherwise difficult time for me. 🤍
😊😊😊Love the birds and the holly and the ivy, but hope we can avoid icicles hanging by the wall this year. xxx
have just been reading about the bird flu though and what that has meant here . used to have lots of little birds and unfortunately pigeons too no pigeons now ,dont mourn the lack of pigeons but i do miss our little birds coming to be fed.
