places within the local community where people can be assured of finding a safe, warm and friendly environment in which to enjoy refreshments, social activity, information and advice and the company of other people’.
these HUBS are being set up in lots of communities across Uk
If you or someone you know is struggling with heating/ providing themselves nourishment / and company could be the best medicine of all for some social interaction
Please look up via internet / local paper/ local housing or social work/ community centre / church halls etc for a HUB in your area!
ALSO if you feel you are in the position to volunteer even an hour a week please contact your local community centre etc .
Volunteering is very rewarding especially as putting back into local community and also provides some company/ social interaction/ and possibly new friendships!!

Thank you for this information I shall certainly be looking around the area I live, If I can get one close enough I might volunteer for a few days a week. You have a good day and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxxxxx 🌻🌻
that’s great! & I hope it’s a rewarding experience for you ,, Thankyou!!! … these warm hubs could literally be life savers for some people. I never thought I’d say this .JUST TO GET A HEAT 🥲
These hubs are an important initiative in the current horrendous political situation. But please make sure you are wrapped up very warmly to go home and at home too. There has been concern expressed that moving between nice cosy spaces and your cold home can cause health problems. I think people like us with respiratory problems are particularly vulnerable.
You may find as these hubs are in local communities, some MAY have neighbours or volunteers who will run you home in car ,,,
And importantly whilst at hub a person can get information & help getting benefits that is maybe unknown to them for heating. I find in my job a lot of people are trying to heat say a 3 bedroom house but only use one room , so advise is available to give people tips on heating.for example just that one room , meals being delivered by local community links. Don’t leave plugs on , the famous one being ‘ leaving kettle plug on incase I need a cuppa’
Many are also linked to local food banks which have also put out a call out for donations of warm clothing including onesies , housecoats , hot water bottles etc
Some useful points here however one (very sensible) suggestion has significant pros and cons. Namely only heating the room(s) you use. Seems to be a sensible move, however there are concerns that not heating spare rooms adequately, can lead to damp and mould in said rooms! Best idea I’ve heard is that spare rooms should be at least minimally heated otherwise it can lead to more expense, than the cost of heating, having these faults rectified, plus lead to health issues if mould takes hold.
Our churches have created a spreadsheet of places open in our town through each week, places where people can go each day for warmth, a welcome, and often free food.
Good morning to all ghoust rider here yes i think now that this should be put on tv where every body can understand lucky that my doctor surgery help us with this sort of thing 👍
Thankyou. I did hear that our local leisure centre/library, which I attend for yoga etc, was going to be a warm hub. I've heard no more so shall chase it up.
The local libraries in our area are offering this service and advice about free services such as free access to wi-fi. Plus some local churches and groups have hot lunches at cost price - company, warmth and hot food. One lady in our area who works from home offered to have someone come to use her home during the daytime as she has her heating on all day anyway (offer via local Facebook group).
It is terrible that people will need these services, but good to know the kindness of people helping out.
