Sailing, part 2 - Adriatic and. NUDITY

One couple, few years older than us, in our social group, had a small sailing boat like ours and were preparing for his retirement. He was clever and had progressed from apprentice to wealthy Managing Director of large company, and was planning to retire to Caribbean for winter months and was going to have a live aboard sailing boat built after getting some experience of bigger hired boats. Asked us to join them, and went twice for two weeks each time, sailing out of Dubrovnik first year, and Split second. Moored up at different places each night, there are lot of islands. One evening could tell gale blowing up and could see in distance boat masts, so sailed there and nosed our way in. Boat we were sailing had Swedish flag reflecting who owned it, and we noticed that some of those boats had same flag. A totally nude man signalled to me to throw him our ropes so he could tie us up to a tree, and we realised we had arrived in a nudist colony! The kind man scrambled over bushes etc to secure us and we were most grateful, fortunately he could speak English. We were little embarrassed, all women and men were nude except us! We had nice peaceful night there, thanked them and wished them farewell next morning.

🤣😂 This gave me a good giggle this morning I must say. Scrambling over bushes in the nude doesn't bare thinking about (pardon the pun). A don't know where to look moment 😄

yes felt embarrassed, some of bushes looked bit thorny, but he persisted and did good job whilst we were getting anchor etc out at back to keep us stable and to stop sea and wind pushing us into their boats etc.

I can imagine your shock, Jean!! At least they were helpful and it obviously didn't bother them at all!! We chartered a yacht in Yugoslavia , as it was then, back in the 80's and came across a nudist colony, I wonder if it was the same one, maybe there were many around? We realised our mistake and took off and anchored round the corner but in the morning a large motor launch brought a load of people over to the beach all in their birthday suits. I think Croatia is very popular for naturist holidays xxx

That’s very interesting. Did you see nude board sailers, as we approached tried to head away from our course, often ended up in water! Was my first experience of sat nav, kept very much in mind not to stray into Albania waters, told boat would immediately be confiscated and we would end up in prison. We enjoyed small islands where islanders would do dinner from very fresh food. One night by small island where resident didn’t do food, he rowed over to us and we bought his wine. We got 4 glasses, took sips and gasped! Husband said don’t spill it will dissolve deck! Happy memories xxx

No we didn't encounter any nude sail boarders or otherwise, Jean. It was a lovely cruising area but at the time there was very little for tourists out in the islands. I think it was cherry brandy they made which was pretty strong and, as you say, the wine was like fire water!! All very primitive back then! Great memories with our friends though xxx

My daughter loved Split when she visited, both her and her husband love sailing and joined friends over there for a couple of weeks in a lovely boat, sadly I cant take to water and am sick as soon as I set my feet aboard. Its good that you had a great trip even sampling the nudist colony ha! its a shock isnt it, but part of your memories which sound like you had a lot of fun x

Yes, Split lovely, roman buildings in better condition than those in Rome! we sailed up estuary, great scenery, and had good meal at nice restaurant high over waters edge. Happy days, sorry you can’t take to water. Jean x

Yes below deck can be rather hot in warm weather. We’ve been on small boat with air conditioning, but noise kept us awake! Can’t win x

Was that a shock or a pleasing encounter? 🤣 We stumbled across some nudists on the beach near Hopton on Sea Some had been swimming and others were sat amongst the reeds. X

Was shock, pleased man so good for securing ropes. No reeds for them to sit amongst, it was evening, so easier when light faded. We were up early next morning, and set sail as soon as possible, before they all appeared! Jean x
