My Story has now made the Papers so hopefully this will help spread the message and make other vulnerable people aware of British Gas's current policy in place for Priority Customers if Planned Electricity Blackouts do have to take place this Winter. Hopefully this should not happen unless we have a very harsh winter. However I have made one or two small preparations. I have brought 4 LED solar lights which can either be charged on the window or by USB. To test them I have been using them as side lamps or main lights in the evening and then leave them to charge on the window (also saves electric)) and so far they have not needed to be charged via USB.I have also brought two high capacity power banks to keep my phone's charged, internet on etc so I can communicate if there is an emergency. Luckily I resisted the temptation to remove my open fire and It is ready to go should we loose heating. I am already on Eons vulnerable list plus Western powers vulnerable list. Western power normally ring me if we will lose power. They have been doing this for a number of years and will give me updates when power will be restored.
Eon as not been great with their advice but Western power the distributor for electric as been very good both in the past and present with keeping me informed.

good day i s so sorry to here what some people are going through i was with british gas years a go i had to go to {cab} for help they are the worst people i ever now for supplys i went ovwer to scottish power i finding them ok all my family moved after

I don’t currently need electricity for any lung condition but do require a fridge for medication for RA. I am on the list with our electric supplier. Just wanted to say thank you for highlighting this.
I was told in the past that if the red cross could not meet your need then you would be admitted to hospital in a power cut. But sadly that won't work in this national crisis and not all vulnerable have machinery that relies on electric , however many people will be in a very bad position including yourself Joseph in the event of long power cuts . I think the government will have to look more closely at what is being proposed and maybe issue generater funds to the highly vulnerable or maybe some companies might rent them out even maybe to some of the less vulnerable . Maybe the fuel companies might help as they are partially to blame. Stay safe as you can.
Can you imagine if thousands of people up and down the country rushed with their carers to their local A & E asking to plug their machines in overnight for 7 hours or more. I know it sounds very dramatic, but if the electric is off for a period of hours and the vulnerable person has not bought or does not have an electric generator as a backup? what else will they be able to do? That is why I am simply trying to get the message out there. Thank you for your support. Joseph
The irony of this is the Hospitals will be using generators too at that time, keep up the good work I am with you all the way . Oxygen machines need electric I believe and dialysis at home . It will be a disaster and there could even be a shortage of generators to buy. This is the reality of such an outcome. Possibly worse than the pandemic. .

Hi Joseph, I too feel worried about cuts in energy as we are all electric and so will lose both heat and the ability to cook. I guess thinking back to the 70's when this happened every day the answer is to be prepared. Candles are a must, battery operated lights if you are unsteady on your feet, cooking good healthy food in the times when the power is available. Flasks of hot drinks and soup. Also, lots of throws and warm jumpers and trousers. Remember, us lungies need to have heat of around 17 degrees so that we do not fall ill. I would advise everyone to have thermometers in their lounge and bedroom. I have the old fashioned kind that my grandmother used and they work very well. Good luck, Maximonkey

Thank you Joseph for highlighting this major problem for anyone using electrical equipment to help their conditions. So basically we all need to sort out a generator. I've had one of these on loan in the past and the fumes from them were awful, even though it was outside, the fumes came in and set my lungs off. Is there an alternative?
