🎭 The mask slipped😪

My gp surgery managed to crack my facade and make me cry. I finally managed to speak to a person to ask why prescription for nebuliser hadn't been fulfilled. (They fulfilled prescription for ampoules to be nebulised but no nebuliser!) The rudeness and unhelpful attitude beggers belief. I know gps are under pressure, funding issues etc but care and kindness cost nothing. Fortunately I rang the palliative care team and 'Jenny' was kindness itself.

That’s terrible and not a very caring attitude. I wonder what is actually going on with GP’s at the moment. I’m so pleased Jenny from palliative care was kind to you.

Thinking of you dear Karenanne. Xxx

Thankyou 'Sassy'. I usually manage to remain upbeat but their lack of compassion shocked me. I hope all is well.

We’re all human and will have bad days ourselves, even doctors who are still pushing against the tide of Covid and the enormous resulting backlog. However some, not the majority, seem to have an uncanny way about them which isn’t helpful to patients under stress. I do wonder if any emphasis is put on the Hypocratical Oath to doctors these days, though it doesn’t appear so when face to face appointments aren’t the norm, phone appointments can miss vital signs, particularly if they are locums and don’t know the patient.

Karenanne61 profile image

This doctor's manner certainly wasn't helpful.

JJ_7 profile image
JJ_7 in reply to Derek

Just a point of Information. Doctors do not take the Hypocratic oath . Since WW2 approximately, they take the Declaration of Geneva. If you read the Hypocratic oath it is seriously outdated. All the best x

Derek in reply to JJ_7

Thank you JJ_7, now l do feel old! Totally unaware of that. I’ll have a look at the Geneva Convention (GC) which l would hope follows the same principles to preserve life, friend or foe, and is taught as a mandatory requirement at all levels of the medical profession. Even those trained outside of respective country’s health services, which perhaps was the initial basis for change so all countries are bound by the same rules. Except those, if any, who have not signed the GC. Hopefully l can post on here what l can find.

I'm sorry Karen but I am not sorry that you were honest about your feelings. I am glad you told them frankly. *BIG HUG* Take care. xx ❤️

Thankyou. Sometimes those feelings have to come out. It's just sad that those you expect to show compassion don't.

Thanks Carole. I was great for a day or two after the Jab ,then had this terrible headache and dizzines. My oxygen dropped to 72 when walking. Really scary .

The Moderna vaccine doesnt seem to agree with me. Thankfully recovered now but annoyed at the side effects caused.

Love to you and Pete, take care xxSheila 💕⚘

My eldest daughter Debbie called yesterday .She was telling me she had same thing with headache and dizziness, lasted for 10days. Hers was a virus she thinks as hadnt had any vaccinations etc. Not sure if it was a coincidence as I had had my jab. I had a reaction from the Moderna before. First 2 were AstraZeneca, 3rd was Pfizer and 4th and 5th were Moderna .no problem with the others. Hopefully no more boosters now.

We do have our Flu injections on Friday, Beginning to feel like a pin cushion. 🙈 love Sheila xx💕⚘

sassy59 profile image
sassy59 in reply to garshe

I don’t think everyone does well on Moderna. Pete didn’t feel great for 24 hours or so but I was fine. I’d had Pfizer and Pete had Astra Zeneca before. We’ve had our flu jabs too so that’s all done now.

Wishing you well for Friday. Take care.

Love Carole xxx😘❤️

Sending you big gentle hugs and lots of love.

One persons unkindness can resonate with you for some time afterwards.

I am so glad that"Jenny" from the palliative care team was able to help.

Have also found difficulty in getting my nebulising capsules -I wonder if there is a shortage- it does NOT excuse the rudeness you experienced even if there are supply issues.

in reply to Cloudancer

Thats it isnt it theres no excuse for rudeness!

Karenanne61 profile image
Karenanne61 in reply to Cloudancer

They prescribed the capsules but are unable to prescribe the nebuliser! It was their attitude that upset me. At no point did a gp speak to me, he/she was passing messages via the receptionist.

Unfortunately Karenanne it's a recurring problem that I've heard from lots of people. Empathy is lacking from the very people who are there to look after your health. Very sorry you were upset and glad you let your feelings show because sometimes they need to know how they can make people feel. Thank goodness for Jenny

Karenanne61 profile image
Karenanne61 in reply to Biofreak

It does seem to be a widespread problem, the lack of any empathy or support from gps. Yet other departments have the same pressures and manage. I surprised my self by how upset it made me!

I am so sorry you had to suffer from somebody's inability to handle pressure Karenanne61 , it does not give them the excuse to be rude to you. Thank goodness for Jenny's kindness and glad she got it sorted for you. Perhaps we as patients should be complaining about how much pressure we are under when we cant see a doctor or get the medication we need. Sending you love and hugs x

Karenanne61 profile image

Thankyou. I'm waiting to hear from the respiratory to see if they can supply/prescribe one.

How appalling to be treated so badly. After all , it is our taxes which pay their wages.

I suspect over-administrative practices imposed by the Government together with a dramatic increase in the numbers of patients per full time GP are to blame. This leads to GPs having to do too much in too little time which causes problems with their patients. So the reception staff find themselves dealing with that many angry patients, they give up on caring to protect themselves. They may well also go home and cry too.

But that way, the whole world gets a little worse, while shining stars like'Jenny' help make the world a bit better place.

Karenanne61 profile image
Karenanne61 in reply to Ergendl

There have been so many houses built here, as everwhere, that all our villages are being swallowed up. New estates but no infrastructure, e.g. gps, schools etc. They are all oversubscribed. However, making patients cry is never excusable.

Hi Karen

am sorry to hear about your problems with the GP and really pleased that you got it sorted

I find that the respiritory teams everywhere are so helpful at getting anything sorted My team sorted me out with a new nebuliser within minutes when mine broke down All I had to do was get it to them and they done a straight swap over

Hope these comments make you feel better and I know everyone here is good at giving help where possible even if they dont know you

take care my dear and stay safe

Oh, what a b*****d. We have seen out doctor several times since they've decided to allow face to face meetings at our surgery and he is always pleasant. Doctors do not need to be horrible. I hope you feel better now. xxxx

in reply to Alberta56

Back in May i had rung for an appointment and a member of the reception staff was rude and ignorant towards me when the appointments were full ring back tomorrow and laughed down the phone which we all felt was very rude and ignorant doing that to ill people who ring for help!

That`e really bad. I got mine twice from the previous consultant and ampules supplied by surgery.

We need to speak up more about bad treatment SOME. but not all can be pretty sharp tongued.

I hope this are a lot better for you now and into the future.

My experience is that the GP's are generally good - it's admin and others that cause the problems. Many of them should not be near public services.

Karenanne61 profile image

Super heros are us!

A couple of weeks ago i needed to change an appointment and rang them up to ask to change it and received a load of rudeness and a simple request to change an appointment turned into a palaver and i was really cross and said well if thats your attitude then the appointment will have to stand wont it and then i slammed the phone down on them!

Its infuriating isnt it when those who are paid to help us wont do their jobs!

If i hadnt turned up to the appointment and not let them know that would have been wrong and then perhaps shouting at me down the phone would have been warranted but its so infuriating when you have done nothing wrong to get treated like that and a simple request turned into a palaver!

The appointment is today at 9.30am and i have my sister in law with me for support and we feel when they were rude to me they did me a favour as what i decided to do was use it as an opportunity to take this week off from the last week of that pigging job as last Friday someone was rude to me there so Monday i rang in sick and said i wont be in for a few days due to feeling stressed out and Friday is my last day there so theres nothing they can do about it!

So by accident when they were rude to me when i asked to change todays appointment they did me a favour as it stopped me going for my last week at the pigging job and having people criticise and be rude to me.

Karenanne61 profile image
Karenanne61 in reply to

It's shocking just how rude some people can be. You were being helpful by freeing up an appointment for someone else.

in reply to Karenanne61

The appointment that fuss was made over is now done and dusted with the housing help centre thankfully.

I felt intimidated when they asked about finances as its embarrassing but it was nice to talk to someone who was understanding when i said how house hunting has driven me to despair!

I told them about the harassment from the letting agency and sent them the threatening letters over the alleged rent arrears they had sent to bully!

They will refer me to their private rented department for help to find something else.

At 3pm its a viewing at a place in Canton but I have enjoyed lunch out with my sister in law who supported me at my appointment this morning.

Karenanne61 profile image
Karenanne61 in reply to

Hope you enjoyed lunch and the viewing goes well.

in reply to Karenanne61

Yes we really enjoyed our lunch out and we stopped in a pub in the high street in Canton as we had spare time before the viewing which went well and after the viewing we went back into Canton high street and called in at a pub called the Canton vaults to have a drink and a chat and talk things through and oh dear we saw my old line managers in there from a previous job and when they had gone we burst out laughing and said how we hoped that a girl they had been foul to was doing well and out living her life same as I do!

Karenanne61 profile image
Karenanne61 in reply to

How funny that you saw your old line managers!

in reply to Karenanne61

Back in 2013 I had gone for a day out in Tenby and oh dear those managers were there as well as bold as brass!
