have had asthma all my life it has got a lot worse in the last few years I have tried many different preventer inhalers which seem t be working for the first couple of weeks then I go downhill again I had a chest infection recently and was given an antibiotic and steroid tablets which did nothing. The antibiotics seemed to have worked fir a while but I am now struggling to breath again. I am wondering if the brown inhalers just make me worse has anyone else had this problem

I didnt have asthma all my life but after many years of it I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis which caused recurring infections. Hope you can be referred to a consultant for further investigations and appropriate treatment .

I’ve had asthma since 2012, when it was found I also have bronchiecstasis. I’m on 4 different inhalers, but I’m still breathless quite a lot. I also take 10mg steroids and an antibiotic - 500mg azithromycin. This has stopped the chest infections.I have only had one since I started the antibiotics in 2017.

I've had asthma all my life too with occasional periods when things seemed to get worse. I use fostair 200 now, a combination inhaler, which keeps things more or less quiescent. Like others have responded I had a very bad patch about 8 years ago with chest infections and was finally, after a battle with my GP, diagnosed with bronchiectasis. Once under the care of our local bronchiectasis consultants that also seems to be more or less under control.

My advice would be: the brown inhaler is unlikely to be making things worse; you could well have needed a longer course of antibiotics, ( if you have bronchiectasis you need at least a two week course); you need a referral to the respiratory clinic.

It sounds like you need to go back to your doctor. Perhaps a different inhaler would help. Or further investigation. Don't give up until you get something that improves your condition.

Hi,

Yes, I have had that problem. Have you only just gone on a preventer or have you used them all your life?

hi I have been on various preventers for most of it. They always seem to work well for a while then it seems your body gets used to it.
