you dont see this yourself on the ship, only other ships passing !/ but I do remember looking out of the porthole in the middle of the night and seeing seagulls flying past in the light ------ all lit up !

in reply toJaybird19

😂😂 I hate ships . I hated working on the ferry because of what happened with the zebruggha ferry diaster

Suzie42 profile image
Suzie42 in reply to

I dont use a recipe ever for it, just bread soaked in water, mixed fruit, mixed spice, brown sugar, syrup and treacle and thats it, scrummy 😊

in reply toSuzie42

sometimes the best things come from not having a recipe ive found my own way in most of the meals I cook unless it is an authentic meal

Suzie42 profile image
Suzie42 in reply to

Thats true, i only ever use recipes for cakes (except bread pudding) !!

in reply toSuzie42

a lot of the old school recipes have been forgotten but they were filling and cheap to make , look at how many people throw away dry bread

madonbrew profile image
madonbrew in reply toSuzie42

Aww we do too! The other day my nephew was making some random shaped bread with cutters and at first I was nearly going to throw the other bits out, but I suddenly thought, no!! I can make bread and butter pudding! Was tasty 😋

Great view! I love seeing the ships 🚢 lit up!

in reply tomadonbrew

it's surprising what comes to mind with food especially now when things are getting tight . Good on ya 👍🏼 yes I love it at night when the ships go past all lite up especially with the mountain behind them

I whizz old bits of bread into crumbs and have a tub in the freezer for adding to the top of gratins etc xx

in reply toleo60

I usually use them for crutons for my lentil soup 😂😂😅

The cruise ship looks lovely. Thank you for sharing. Was it today you thought you’d go to the beach during the day? I have total brain fog today so I could have been imagining this completely.

in reply tohelenlw7

I was hoping to go but I have to take the day as it comes and I went hospital this morning the lump on my head was leaking watered down blood im ok the hospital cleaned the area put a dressing on for a couple of days and I have antibiotics just in case of infection

When on holiday in Kefalonia the accomodation was by the sea and a favourite pastime in the evening was watching the cruise ships pass by much like your photo. Something quite soothing about it. Used to wonder what kind of people were on the ship and what they were doing. Maybe on the deck looking towards the land? Or maybe dancing the night away. 💃🕺

in reply toBiofreak

it is kinda soothing to watch as the ship glides through the water all lite up , they probably are eating drinking dancing or looking at where they're leaving . Not my kind of holiday but still nice to watch . Since covid I sit wondering how many cases are on board 😁

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply to

Not my kind of holiday either even before COVID. Never been on one but think I would feel too confined. I like to explore the place I'm on holiday or at least I used to . Lots of people love them though. Whatever floats your boat! 😁😂 Pardon the pun😏

in reply toBiofreak

I used to do security on board ferries down Folkstone I hated being on board like you say confined. Like you I loved to explore now going out the door is an adventure 😅😅

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply to

You're not wrong there Davey. Life has a way of getting in the way of the things you enjoy . Well illness does anyway and pretty much everyone on the forum knows that to varying degrees. 😏

in reply toBiofreak

yes , I think about all the things I missed doing since I got ill theres lots . Think the worse bit for me is finally being in a beautiful place with all the things that most people would give anything for and I hate the loneliness

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply to

It's a double edged sword. I love Greece but I wouldn't want to be on my own there, especially if I was unwell. You have spent a lot of time looking after your stepdad and mum before him. It must have been hard especially when your own health took a turn. You seem to have a few decent neighbours and friends so I hope it's enough. You certainly have quite a few on the forum.

in reply toBiofreak

I know and I'm grateful to have the friends here and on the forum . But sometimes it is nice to have someone hold you close and tell you it's going to be ok . I spend so much time sat outside under the stars talking to them . Sounds daft I guess 😅😅

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply to

It's not daft, it's human to feel like that. It's what most people want in an ideal world. Virtual hug coming your way 🤗. Night night. Sleep well 💤 xx

in reply toBiofreak

thank you and may your dreams be sweet ones . Nite nite xx

Jaybird19 in reply toBiofreak

i have used cruise holidays to find new places to explore. I do not go for the life on board. but I do scan the promised holiday to see how much time is spent in the ports and how much time spent travelling and what i can find when i go ashore either on a coach trip to more remote places , or just ashore in the port itself . The sea days between should be cut down to the limit and those days can be spent in lectures on various subjects ,some times people from ORCA on board and talks on sea and birdlife there or the interesting buildings to be seen in the next port, talks and classes on various subjects . always a full day and then finally a comfortable bed.

My experience has only been on Saga ( no children. In fact you have to be over 50) .I do avoid the bridge games, the swimming pool and sun decks, the interminable treks round the deck for half a mile ! And have found extensive libraries on their ships too , and even been processing my photos taken each day, in the computer room open to fellow travellers .

No shows, no dancing, no concerts, no drinks in bars for me but so much more.

This was all done with a old friend with similiar likes after we retired but now the single cabin costs are so much more but I am not as fit and mobile as I was then.

in reply toJaybird19

cruises are so expensive now , but I can see your logic

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply toJaybird19

I suppose a cruise is ideal for some, depending on what you enjoy, The facilities you describe and varied activities sound good. For me I think it's more about the feeling of being on a ship that doesn't sit well with me.

in reply toBiofreak

I agree it is about personal preference I don't get sea sick but don't feel comfortable on board

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply to

I enjoy boat trips to visit different places. We have been on boat trips from Kefalonia to Ithaca and Zante and other islands only accessible by boat during past holidays. Those were the days when we could dive/jump off the boat into the sea and have a swim. 🏊. Aaaah memories! 😄

in reply toBiofreak

I find going outside into the street an adventure these days 🤣🤣🤣

Mavary profile image
Mavary in reply to

I had a smallish one in here a couple of days ago. He soon went out though. With my boot behind him if I had them on. I’ve got confers along my door to deter them. I must admit for being on the ground floor I don’t get many. I’ll probably get them all now I’ve said that. 😹

in reply toMavary

you have probably jinxed yourself 😂😂 you will be shouted at by some large cockroach

Mavary profile image
Mavary in reply to

nah! Not unless you’ve sent them over. Ours over her are only like beetles. So I’m not bothered. Not like the huge ones in Hawaii. I bet they’re big in Greece too because it’s a hot Country.

cruise ships can go from 5oo people, or a lot less, and up to and over 6000 people now .

can you imagine ! I think that most people's idea of a cruise is of the really large ships.

you can even go on a cruise ship with full set of sails -- and help sail it if you so desire . !

My first experience of sailing holiday was on 34 ft boat with just 4 berths and a skipper, round the Hebrides. Another had 8 berths and you can book a single berth or charter the whole boat and this boat is now sailing around the Med. It was built in 1907. Beautiful boat.

in reply toJaybird19

oh I know we do have some here you can charter but I like my feet on the ground 🤣🤣🤣
