blocked nose.

My husband has copd & over the last few months has begun to suffer with a blocked nose. He's been prescribed a nasal spray which doesn't really help & been referred to ENT but goodness knows when he'll get an appointment! Also tried antihistamines. A bunged up nose obviously doesn't help with his already poor breathing...

Does anyone else have this problem.

I suffer with rhinitis & swear by olbas oil in boiling water but he says it makes his breathing worse....

It might be worth trying a simple food, actions and symptoms diary to record when the problem is worse or not so bad, as that may help to identify whether there's a specific culprit, or a more generalised condition.Wishing you and your husband all the best.

I find Halls mentholyptus sweets ( black) are a great help for me, never without them. Sometimes I use an Olbas nasal inhaler. If it's really bad I use a Neti pot with salt water.

I use Sterimar too sometimes but I find Sudafed tablets better for a blocked nose. And Halls sweets are wonderful. I also carry them with me everywhere.

Ive chronic rhinosinusitis.i always use steroid nasal spray and antihistamines.at its worst,i use a little squeezy ' bulb'+ use cooled kettle water to irrigate them, which givees instant relief - the secret is to keep head forwards whn doing it .

Hi. I got an ENT appointment within 2 weeks I even cancelled my follow up and got an appointment for a week later. Have you tried massaging the sinuses to unblock the nose ? X

If your husband is open to approaches other than medication, I recommend Buteyko breathing exercises which focus on restoring nose-breathing and include exercises to unblock stuffy noses. I am a yoga practitioner and teacher and have had a blocked nose for many years. I've been using the Buteyko approach a bit more recently and my nose is much clearer, after only several weeks.
