Silicon mask allergy/intolerance? Any alternatives?

Hi All My respiratory nurse wanted me to try a salt nebuliser for my bronchiectasis...with a mask, I tried it for a while but was getting a very unpleasant rash on the sides of my face and near my hairline, after a while this altered to blisters in the same area.I tried a mouth piece and still the same thing. It wasn’t until I started getting the same reaction on my wrist from wearing my Fitbit type device that I wondered if I have a silicon allergy? Anyone ever have this? I’m due to get a full allergy testing as over the years I keep adding to my list of allergies and intolerances. Can you buy masks for nebulisers that are NOT silicon (tried looking on the internet but no help) Any help appreciated

You have my sympathy. My new Charge 5 fitbit is constantly giving me a rash where the old ones didn't. It must be awful to get the same rash on your face.

I had a quick look online, and some face masks say non-latex. Could it be this rather than or in addition to silicone?

For some of us, regular contact with an irritant can cause an intolerance. Years ago I had full leg traction using Elastoplast. After 1 month, the whole of my leg came out in blisters and the securing product had to change to crepe bandages. Have only been able to wear elastoplast for a day or so since without the itchy return.

Hoping someone else will be able to give you more practical advice.

I have the same reaction when I have a blood test from the sticky tape they use, not sure what is in it could be latex as Ergendl suggests. Hope you find a solution. Is the salt neb helping with your bronch? Let us know how you get on x

I’m in the middle of trying a spacer for my inhaler as my tongue has been so sore. I had a stoma a few years ago. It was reversed. But the bags I was using made my tummy all red and I ended up with a couple of ulcers. That’s why I wondered if it’s the plastic they use with the inhalers. It could be the steroid anyway but we will see.
