Good morning everyone, I have currently been taking for over a year 2.5 ml of Oramorph Liquid, 4 times a day to help my Stage 4 COPD breathing ie 10 ml in total daily.
At a recent hospital review I was asked if I would like to try Morphine slow acting tablets the same ml as the liquid, i.e. one in the morning and one in the evening with the biggest factor being they are slow acting and the effect does not wear off as quickly.
I just wondered if anyone else had switched to the tablets? or which had worked best for them?
Thank you all in advance

I ve been on longtec but dr took me of that and put me on zoromorph and shortec(oxycodone) for my chronic pain but never been in oromorph unless it been prescribed whilst in hospital for short time the tablets is released over 12hrs period it does take the edge of the pain but alao take shortec 1-2 tabs 3x a day to help as well but never for my asthma. As you gp if you can try them for a month see how you get on with them if not you can always go back on oromorph instead.
Hi Joseph. I have stage 4 emphysema and have been on oramorph for several years and was recently prescribed slow release morphine tablets in addition to the oramorph not instead of. I take the tablets twice a day and still take the oramorph about 3 times a day on average but was taking it far more often than that before. My GP said that the tablets would avoid the peaks and troughs of oramorph and keep a low background amount of morphine in my system. I have found that it helps and in my case at no time has it been suggested that the tablets should replace the oramorph. I may be worth asking if you can still take the oramorph if you feel you need it as well as the tablets. Carole.
I have a slow release patch lasts for 3 days and oramorph liquid witch i add on as and when needed. It is worth remembering using morphine for pain and low dose for breathing is different. I like the patches as just stick them on and forget about them i put a reminder on my phone to change them and its one or 2 less tablets to take. It might be worth a try and see how you get on you can always ask to go back to the liquid if you prefer it
