Hi whit, l think quite a few people have an adverse reaction to ciprofloxacin. I do recall Pete feeling nauseous at some point but otherwise he’s tolerated them well. Your doctor needs to find a different antibiotic for you. Best wishes to you. Xxx

Hi, I’ve been taking Ciproxin for many years, sorry doesn’t work for you, know other people have had problems with it. Hope Dr finds you another. Good luck, best wishes, Jean.

I have taken 2 or 3 courses of Cipro, firstly at 250mg and then 500mg. The last course gave me adverse side effects (a few years ago now but I think it was severe stomach pains) and when I saw my then GP he told me to stop it immediately and would mark my records that I must not be prescribed it again.

With the caveat that I’m not medically qualified. I would very much hesitate to use the term allergic for what you describe, as an allergy to something is a quite specific set of reactions. It does sound like you may be intolerant: cipro is a powerful antibiotic - it’s actually the first line choice to treat anthrax - and it does have the ability to cause quite unpleasant side effects as a result, including tiredness, nausea and vomiting, so some people do struggle with it. My understanding is that those kinds of issues are unpleasant but can to some extent be managed to enable continued use. However, issues with the Achilles often indicate it should be abandoned and not used any further due to a small risk of tendon rupture.

Unfortunately, the difficulty with not being able to tolerate cipro, and there are several other members here that can’t, is that there are some bacteria, like pseudomonas, for which cipro is the only effective oral antibiotic we have. Had you already finished the entire course, or have they switched you onto a different oral?

These are well known side effects of cipro and your doctor should know that. They are the only oral antibiotic for pseudomonas but otherwise I would stay clear. They gave me stomach problems and made me feel awful but no Achilles problems. I hope you are fully recovered.

Hi Whit .. Cipro is a very powerful drug that I steer well clear of after my first and only experience, very soon after taking the very first pill I felt so very ill.. throwing up, diarrhea, legs gave way, sweating all over, stomach pain...couldn't move ... I've heard it's successful for treating bad bugs ... but I will never chance it again...
