This wee beasty is called a chica bug by the Greeks . If you have been in a hot country or lucky enough to have been in a jungle you have probably heard this beasty chirping away and wondered what is making the sound you have probably heard them in films with people in the jungle . Thought I would show you what it is πππ this one inch beast was outside my friends door below my home .
Let me introduce you to my little fri... - Lung Conditions C...
Let me introduce you to my little friend
He looks harmless Dave so hopefully is. Thank you for sharing, nice to see. Xxxπ
You would be extremely surprised about this bug π it can fly obviously grows up to about two maybe three inches and almost indistructable I've seen someone stand on one and it didn't kill it it just moved on . If there's a nuclear war apart from cockroaches and rats these beasties will also survive ππ
Now thereβs a thought! Xxπ
All the nasty things manage to survive πππ
There must be a message in that, somehow - it pays to be as nasty as possible? π
Possibly ππ didn't think of that one ππ
Does it make a dreadful noise at night? We heard something in October that nade an awful noise all night long and a greek man told us it was an insect mating call π€£
You got it they sit in fruit trees making the noise to pull a girlfriend πππ
Dreadful noise π€£
Strange I find it kinda soothing mind you I'm a weirdo ππππ love nature even the freaky creatures πππ³
Thought this Giant Elephant Moth might appeal to you.
Now that is cute something to stroke and chat too πππ
Looks like what we used to call Cicadas in Africa, they were a lullaby I used to go to sleep with as a baby and toddler! Insects may well be a protein source that helps save humans as we adjust to global warming. I certainly liked fried locusts as a little one.
Tried locust they are nice and high in protein as you say tried mealworms aswell not nice though π lots of forgotten food just walking around like hedgehog but I think their cute .
I have never quite wanted to try whole baked hedgehog, problem is reading about Mrs Tiggy-winkle when I was young.
Yes but did watership down stop you eating rabbit ππ made me want rabbit stew π πππ
I did not like Watership Down, book or film, and the song drove me nuts, (was there a book before the film?) anyway I liked rabbit stew, when my Gran cooked it. She was an adult during both world wars, and you ate what was put in front of you.π±
You had no choice then . First the book then the film and song together ππ drove everyone crazy
Watership Down was written by a Sociologist, who wanted to explain how forgetting history can be dangerous for communities. It was a protest about post modernism's assertion that our society now has no cohesive meta-narratives, told through the medium of refugee rabbits to give it commercial appeal. It was recommended reading for a Christian Ethics module I did at uni.
I saw one of these in Crete fightend the life out of me lol. Have to wait their chirping at night was soothing. Have a goodnight and take care π Bernadette and Jack π xxxxxx π»π»
Must admit they are a bit scary because their big and chunky ππ
I'm glad you don't mind them. In this family we are kind to all bugs, beasties and creepy crawlies, though ants are not top of my popularity list at the moment. They tried to bite me when I went to pick some of MY blackcurrants. The didn't even want the currants: they had a greenfly farm on the top shoots of the bush.πππ
Must admit I not over keen on ants myself πππ
I don't mind them in their place, which is definitely not on me.
Think Iβll sidestep your friend β¦ not much into creepy crawlers π±
He's a nice little fella. Loves iron brew and Turkish delight they enjoy sweet things ππππ
Well definitely hide your chocolate,,!
More worried about the large tin of fruit jellies on the bedside cupboard ππππ
It's also got Turkish delight in it ππππ
Keep the lid on.
Thinking about sweet things, I am sure I saw a programme about a "honey bird" in southern Africa, who will lead the local hunter to the place where a bee's hive is hanging, knowing that the hunter will leave some honey as a thankyou.
He also has to be careful the hunter doesn't eat him too π
Heβs a large one. Do they bite?
Hopefully not I haven't got round to asking one yet π€£π€£π€£
I love the sound of ciacadaβs at night when all is calm. Not seen one close up though. They donβt look as nice as they sound. πͺ²
I remember when we were in Hawaii a big beetle thing scuttled in front of us. I screamed and the check in people that were up ahead all looked up. I felt such a fool but it was spontaneous. It was huge. Iβve never seen a beetle thing like it before. And it really clattered in front of us.
The thing is in the UK were not use to seeing huge beetles so it is an automated response for us to jump back startled. Doesn't help if you don't like creepy crawlies either πππ
I donβt mind anything like that as long as it doesnβt jump out on me. I had a similar experience going down to Venice beach in Venice. We were walking along and all of a sudden a huge wasp like thing came out of nowhere in front of me. I screamed yet again. Iβve never seen such great big insects. I swell up a lot if Iβm stung by an English wasp so I hate to think what would happen if I got stung by one of those huge great big things.
Their big here like Jumbo jets when you see them fly at you πππππ
I think I would be carrying a tennis racquet. πΉ
So I guess you would invite it for a game ππ would probably prefer golf πππ
Awh, what a cutie! π
