So many people go on holiday, enjoy the sun, enjoy the food but learn nothing about where they have been. It would make little difference if the aeroplane instead of going to Spain landed in Greece, apart from the food.

On one of our trips to Portugal, we drove across Spain, Burgos, Valladolid and then off the motorway for a break in a little town Tordesillas. Nothing special, narrow streets with high buildings so cool compared to being on the motorway. We bought some wine and went on our way. We gave a bottle to our Portuguese friends which immediately led to a history lesson.

The twom is famous for being the place where the Kings of Spain and Portugal divided up the world. If you want to learn a bit more here`s a link to Wikipedia in English.

Have a good day, take care and make the most of the weather.

I used to go a lot to Spain but touring with my husband on a motorbike, dim and distant past! Stayed in Cuidad Rodrigo just west of Salamanca near the Portuguese border. Such a lot of history as it’s where the Duke of Wellington crossed with his army to fight the French, he was given freedom of the city. Also had a tour of the cathedral by a Spanish priest in French and I was sort of translating for my husband. Such an interesting and beautiful country.

Never had time for history at school but when you are given the opportunity to learn more about local history, sur place, makes it all the more interesting. I have a wine bottle capsule pinned up in front of me showing the earliest written spanish language. From the Rioja region, curtesy of "Bodegas david Moreno". Website worth a look.
