I can't advise about a room air purifier Balloo but that is a fabulous orchid.

I have two one with a fan and one without .The one I bought at Christmas has gone up in price , there is quite a wide price range .

Remember too the cost of new filters .

The ionising ones are not recommended , mine have HEPA filters .

If you type air purifiers into the search box top right hand corner of this page , then click on my communities , past posts and replies will come up.

Beautiful orchid by the way

I have a Vax and a Dyson, both working well. We bought them about 3-4 years ago and they have both been in use every day, all day since. Not sure how much they helped but when my husband got covid he stayed in the lounge & bedroom only (the rooms where we have the filters going) and I didn’t catch it!

(I am the one with lung conditions)

Dyson has the better filter, both a carbon filter and a Hepa filter and seems to be the best one of the two. But it is expensive to buy and filters are expensive to replace. Around £70 for Dysons filter but think there are cheaper copies.

The Vax has a Hepa filter and comes at a lower price. The filters cost around £40.

We find we need to replace the filters approx every 6 months.

I have a homedic air purifier. I find it helps, my room feels cleaner air and dust doesnt accumulate so much on surfaces. I also have a dog with long fur but that doesn’t affect me( always had dogs and cats). I keep boston fern and peace lily in my rooms, theyre good for the air. I get hayfever too and take an antihistamine every day at the mo. The homedic purifier is not an ioniser . Ionisers aren’t good so i’m told if you have lung problem. Hope you find one that helps.🙂

Hi Collie - interesting blog this - particularly regarding ionising fans.Bought a couple some years back from a local chemist (not Boots I should add) when I was first told I had COPD.

At 85 years old now I still have used them - mainly when the weather is hot - but am now concerned as to how/why ionisation is no longer recommended.

Any help anyone can give would be appreciated.

Hi, i think ionisers are bad for copd because they emit ozone which is harmful to lungs. Its different to the sea air ozone we breathe which can be beneficial.

I bought a Dyson a couple of years back. Fan on it was useless and. noisy I took it back to John Lewis after trying for 3 weeks! I bought a MEACO 1056 Fan, excellent buy. Very quiet I think they do a dehumidifier too, I’d certainly look at that before a Dyson. Joy x.
