I was diagnosed last year with COPD Emphysema. I want to use an Air Purifier for my bedroom and my living room. Your thoughts and comments would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

Hi Paddie, I think there was a post about this just yesterday or the day before. If you scroll down through the previous posts you should find it.

We have a PIV system fitted in our hallway via the loft which gives use clean filtered air all year round and helps reduced any mould forming, an alternative to a air purifier might be worth a look into also

Hello I use Dyson air purifiers in particular the Dyson Cool me by my bed as really quiet to sleep with. They are expensive but I found the cheap ones just do not work. Hope this helps you Best wishes Ruth

Hi Paddie

I bought a Dyson purifier when they first came out about 5 years ago for my asthma - I do think it helps as it filters out pollen, pollution etc though it seems to respond more to indoor pollution (cooking etc). It also comes on when I have a bath or shower which makes me wonder if there's a bit of mould somewhere...they are a lot cheaper now, as long as you buy a reputable brand you should be ok.

Thank you for your reply. The Dyson seems to be popular.

My husband has emphysema and couldn’t manage without his Dyson . They are expensive and we need to change the filters every 12 months at £50 plus each time but it is on 24/7 , presumably the less it’s used the longer the filters last . We’ve never tried the cheaper ones but depending on their price they might be worth trying 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔

I Bought one off Amazon called BIONAIR, a few years ago, it seems to be ok . You need to buy New Filters for it once a year though.

Hi Paddie, it depends on what you want to filter out and how reactive your airways are. Industrial/traffic air pollutants, or pollen, or outgassing molecules can be picked up by air purifiers, but mopping the floors twice a week is more effective for dust mites.
