No they don't. The programme was very interesting though, the cavern is huge and goes on for miles. The one in Poland is beautiful and very ornate

I have been down that salt cave in Poland & it was amazing. Not for the claustrophobic though as the elevator back up was very small !

There were definitely a few levels it was a long walk down. There was a lake too & they have concerts down there as well. Don't remember a fair ground though. It was a brilliant experience 🙂.

They're not far from Auschwitz . From the old ghetto area of Krackow there are many tours to the salt caves and Auschwitz . It was too heartbreaking to go there so my daughter & I payed homeage outside Schindler's ( he of List) which is still there and to the Jewish cemetery to pay our respects. Having seen your photo of the cathedral like cave perhaps I'll pluck up courage next time .

My late husband went to the man made Salt Cave in Edinburgh and found it really helped with his breathing along with being very relaxing and peaceful.

He also used a Salt Pipe.

Havent seen those advertised lately. That s interesting . Thanks .Hadnt heard about the salt cave there in edinburgh.

But do you feel it helps your breathing ? I do believe that we shouldn't just ignore 'alternative ' medicine but investigate what mankind has found over the years and learn from it. Breathing salt is one worth following up . It might be just you are relaxing and that helps. What does your consultant actually say ?

We went there some years ago and will never forget it. There's even a post office there, underground! There's a hospital and a cathedral as well as the aforementioned lake. Absolutely beautiful and not to be missed if you can manage the walk down to go inside. I don't think I would manage it now.

The lift to go back up is, indeed, very small. I got so 'up close and personal' with the person next to me that I was really glad she was someone from our tour party. At least we could laugh when our boobs were bouncing off each other! Honestly, we were that close! It was like a game of sardines. Haha!

I kept a log during our holiday and you've now prompted me to go and get it out to read again. Lovely memories!

I didn't ever go there but was looking for all things related to salt for this talk and all photos added to it and couldn't believe some of what I found . You mentioned a cathedral and I had forgotten that but I then had a photographic memory of all the statues there, was that in the cathedral .? I am glad that the picture of the chandeliers in a salt cave brought happy memories back for you.

All because of bevs visit to another sort of salt cave .

I must get out my book and check, but I believe the chandeliers and statues were in the cathedral. It's a truly amazing place!

Thanks for the memory!

I’ve been in them. They are truly amazing. They do guided tours but my daughter in law arranged for us to do the one for the less mobile for me. It was a great move as we had the tour guide to ourselves. I agree with Jane2005 the lift was horrendous. Thank you for the picture it’s nice to be reminded of what normal life was.

What amazed me when i saw pictures was the walls were salt. Until I had to do the research I didn't know there was so much salt , enough to build 5 levels. H ow many ?zillion million years for that amount to evaporate.

Unbelievable. i wouldn't have thought it was all made of salt.

The caves are in this enormous layer of salt.

years ago they noticed miners never got any respiratory problemswhen in the salt mines and again in the war years when people slept underground for safety .I believe a couple of jewish people hid in the caves by krakow but it was under german control as they had to be careful .Ive also bought a portable salt inhalation for when i cant get there
