Took today as a days holiday from work about 2 weeks ago as had a group interview scheduled for a big hiring of a company. But after being up most of the night coughing I decided I’m not at my best to go.
Does anyone have any remedies or anything that stops coughing at night?
Also I’m on day 4 today of my antibiotics and don’t really feel any better so the doctor I saw on Monday is ringing me today. Should I ask for steroids?

Hi, steroids might be an option, ask your doctor. Have you tried honey and fresh lemons in boiled water to drink? Its natural and honey is a great healer.( natural honey, pure). I have it every day and im sure it helps, and lemons arent expensive to but. I wish you all the best. Take care, stay warm and rest.
Hi, thank you for your reply. I don’t know if I’m just looking for a quick fix but I feel like by Sunday when these antibiotics are finished I still won’t feel better.
I personally would never try to stop a productive cough. If however your cough is dry and you are getting very little sleep, there is a trick which sounds crazy but many have found to be helpful. Vick, not rubbed on you chest but on the soles of your feet and pop on a pain of cotton socks. Would love to hear if it works for you.
True my doctor said on the phone today that it was good it was coming up even though it meant little sleep for me! I have heard that but never given it a go.
Better to cough as it keeps it moving than sitting there causing more harm really. The Vicks on feet is true I've tried it and it does help. Also I put it on my chest and back though. Hot water and paracetamol before bed to go with it. Coughing is nightmare but suppressing it will make it worse long term. Mucuc cough expectorant helps by thinning the mucus and making it easier to cough up. Steam too, nice hot bath.
Hi, thank you for your reply. Yeah definitely! I love a hot water bottle in bed! Thank you for your tips!
Take care x
Steroids definitely..follow your action plan, increase your bronchodilators like your reliever if you are breathless, it will also help to bring up the mucus..
Stay hydrated.. drink a lot of fluids
Try lozenges and hot drinks like thyme and eucalyptus herbal tea with honey
Take steamy showers and use a humidifier
Remove anything which would trigger a cough..like perfume or chemical house products
If the cough last for over 2 weeks ask for a chest xray.
