Covid Antivirals Clarification.

Firstly I’d like to say sorry if I’ve caused any alarm.

Apparently Scotland and England are working from the same guidelines. From an early post you will find I asked for some clarification regarding the differences between some wording between Scotland and Englands guidance. The reply I got:

In terms of the differences between the two lists – although the wording for some of the cohort groups is different in the letter from the Scottish CMO, the descriptions/definitions used are the same on both lists.

In your email, your constituent refers to the criteria on the NHS England website, which includes “a condition or treatment that makes you more likely to get infections” as an eligible group: nhs.uk/conditions/coronavir...

I note that this is not a term used in the UK-wide policy document (although of course some conditions or treatments will be covered in the cohorts listed in the document). As with the letter from the CMO, your constituent can check the cohort list in the UK-wide policy document, and contact their consultant if they have any queries.

I do not fall into the highest risk cohort for antiviral treatment. I understand some of the our lung buddies have been selected but not purely because they have a lung condition such as Copd, bronchiectasis they must also fall into the cohort due to other factors.

I have enclosed a picture of the cohort selected for at home antiviral treatment.

The main thing I got back from all of the investigation is that no one will go without if they require the medical intervention. The difference is some will have to be admitted to hospital to require the treatment whilst others can get them at home.

Dad is still doing well and the rest of the household testing negative with lateral flow test.

Wishing you all a nice weekend x
