Update on my recovery, we are at day 100

Well, tomorrow is day 100.

(Background for those who do not know my story. I was hospitalised with Covid mid September last year, and was in hospital for a month. I also got pneumonia and a pulmonary embolism to add to me troubles. With a months bedrest, it has been very tough to get my fitness back, and I have struggled with a lot of sleep anxiety)

I continue to improve, I can cook 2 meals, go for a 10-15 minute walk, bath, and just about get my shopping up the stairs.

The biggest thing to come from this week is driving for the first time. I went to the beach, sat and took some lovely photos. really enjoyed it. Oddly, despite a great day, and getting off to sleep well yesterday, I work with anxiety, and was up and down to the loo for several hours. Thankfully I did get some sleep in the end, through sheer exhaustion!

I was pretty refreshed today and managed to drag the shopping up stairs, put away the chilled too. I played some computer games and recorded part of a new video for my Youtube channel.

Started flagging by 4pm though, so a slightly earlier night me thinks.

I'm more or less 3 and a half months into recovery, yet still find I get tired most days, which gets me down, plus my sleep could be better. I seem to be up to the loo lots!

To counter this tonight, I have put my worries to bed (going back to work, which i'm actually looking forwards too). I also have some Lavender Tea to have at 6pm and have a lavender mister, which puffs nice scent into the air. I'm hoping this has a nice calming effect on me.

I'm not worried at all about going back to work though, I have coped with everything that has come my way.

I just wonder, how long before I'm less tired. I'm exercising as much as I can, but resting when I feel tired and a bit meh.

Hopefully the tuna pasta bake will help me to get some better sleep tonight. I certainly have no worries, so do get confused when I wake up!

Overall, after a bout of insomnia, i've had a good week for sleep. Just get up 3-4 times a night to pee. Guess I just have to put up with that, as anxiety messes with the bladder, and when you lie awake, the kidneys still produce urine.

Did anyone else find this, background anxiety causing these problems?

Sounds like yr over it!everyone gets tired and have parts of day when feel exhausted.if u can do all those normal daily things,it will prob help u 're establish a routine with work etc. Did u have anxiety previously? It is responsible for lots of physical symptoms.controlled breathing techniques+ meditation or distraction helps

Nope, never had anxiety, but it came through fear of crashing with fatigue and breathlessness, which are just not going to happen this far into recovery!

I've just eaten a nice wholemeal tuna pasta bake, with cheese and emmental beans, these are all rich in Tryptophan, thus aid sleep!

Dont think i'm quite over it yet as that will be the case when I can gop for several walks a day, and visit the shops, and not worry about getting tired just standing for more than 15 minutes.

It is heading in the right direction!

Thanks, at least i'm not alone. I can manage a few trips to the loo no worries, but going 4 times in an hour or so is a lot!

I'd expect u to be v tired whn first go back to work.perhaps it will give u a better sleep.may be worth getting urine tested,to make sure no infection?

The urine is definitely anxiety related. I tried lavender tea and a lavender mist diffuser last night and it worked wonders! My body felt all heavy and I slept well, only got up for the loo twice and went straight back to sleep!

Glad you are still making progress. If you find a remedy for tiredness, I'd love to know it, but i think we just have to put up with it.

I've not found one yet, however multi vitamins and lucozade seem to help! Speaking to my GP on Monday about vitamin D, as this can aid recovery. It's mostly muscle weakness for me. Because I was immobile for 4 weeks pretty much, my muscle wasted away. I can only do very light exercise, 3-4 times a week, say using the stairs, or a 15 minute walk.

However, a month ago, I was lucky if I could walk 100 meters, without my heart racing and being exhausted afterwards!

It seems like forever waiting to get back to normal. Or perhaps I'm just a bit impatient.

Hello natswright. I guess your recovery will all take time and the more you push it. The more tired you will feel I guess. I too suffer with anxiety during the night. Think it's due to 2 worrying situations I was dealing with within weeks of each other a few years ago I had cut treatment for this. But it really didn't help. If I get up In the night I then start overthinking things and panicking and can't get back to sleep . Just something I have to learn to control. I am sure you will continue to get stronger. You only look young and hope everything goes well for you to enjoy your life. Brian

Sleep often comes in 2 hour slots and anxiety sometimes wakes me up at 5.30. go to loo then get back to bed for next two hours either trying to sleep but lying awake , and worry means i cannot lie still. So divert brain with codewords ,or reading. You are doing very well, really working at it. Best wishes for your continuing improvement.

You really have improved a lot, well done! Sounds like you had a lovely day too. With your bedtime routine have you tried a weighted, lavender eye mask? I use it for relaxation after yoga. I can't use it in bed cuz I fidget terribly and heaven knows where it would end up. 😂

After a great day, the stormy weather kept me up most of the night. I did manage some sleep, but was up 10 times to the loo with anxiety, until I finally settled around 2pm, and got some much needed sleep. Could have done with more!
