In the process of buying a flat and looking for a life/mortgage cover insurance policy I was (rather naively) shocked to be refused cover as I have a diagnosis of (mild) C.O.P.D. Is there any advice you can offer me please re' more approachable insurance companies?

Gosh, that is a shock with only mild copd. Have you tried a broker? I use Swintons and they do all of the searching . Other insurances, utilities etc i do my own research but building and contents is more complicated. I remember Halifax quoting over £1200 for building only, was about 15 years ago because there was a big tree across the road in the park! The cheek.
Hi. You could try and insurance broker that may have experience of this problem before. I hope you don't mind me saying. Is the flat on the ground floor or got a lift. I was just thinking if your copd was to get worse. Stairs maybe a problem. Good luck. Brian
I’m shocked by that. I don’t remember being asked health questions when getting life cover for a mortgage but I was young then with no health issues so maybe it just didn’t register. Sorry, useless reply but yes use a broker, they at least will know if it’s a normal reason for refusal.
There are companies who do special policies for COPD sufferers , If I remember right the BLF have a list but it may have an excess . Its like travel insurance that often depends on whether you have had treatment as in patient during the past twelve months or how many inhalers you use or pills you take. Its very much decided on your personel health but there are only a few who do the mortgage ones. Sorry for delaid response.
