Travel insurance with IPF
Just a thought Sooki, have you tried Good to Go? My wife always uses them because most firms don't cover you if a close relative with a serious illness (like me) is taken ill at the last minute and you have to cancel. If they cover that they will perhaps cover you. As I say, just a thought. Good luck with it.

I have just bought ours and used the same company that we used for when we went to Canada, this time I have bought insurance for 2 weeks in France and it cost £88 and covers conditions for both of us. You can go online to get a quote or give them a call, it is Holiday Extras. Hope you find good insurance cover.
Try - staysure.co.uk
They specialise in medical travel insurance
Good luck
I received quotes for the USA which was very expensive for the USA recently, I finally got insurance for myself and husband for under £200. From travel time.
i found stay sure no good at all, they say you are covered but everything you say you have is not covered by them plus they charge you more more having it, why charge you for something they won't pay out for?
in past have found SAGA the best most straight forward to talk to, you dont have to be old to insure with them, good luck. Ron.
Hi Sooki, I got mine from Aviva £165 for both of us for 12 months, I had to ring them to make sure I was covered for my problems because all the others were £600.00+ I couldn't believe their price

Have you tried Avanti - they cover my husband for U S A -- cost £260 for two weeks . He has very rare lung condition Idiopathic Pulmonary Haemosiderosis ( only person in Wales with it according to his Consultant ) but Avanti have covered him twice since his diagnosis in Sept . 2011 . Other companies quoted anything up to £ 1900 . If you decide to contact them ask for Angela - she is so helpful - Tel - 01376560800 . Best of luck . Incidentally he is 72 .
Hi Helen
I'm in south Wales y husband is 52 and just diagnoses with IPF I'm finding the diagnosis very hard to deal with, and worried how much longer we have together...hugs xx

Hi Sooki, I too have problems with travel insurance. I ended up with Able2travel, they where expensive but not as expensive as other insurers. Most of them would not even quote for my husband and I to be covered. I have Bronchiectasis and heart problems so I guess it depends how ill you have been in the previous year as I had been very ill in the past but for the last 12 months I had been relatively well and not hospitalised. Hope this helps. Maximonkey
Try ALL CLEAR.
I have used this company for a few years now and found them to be the best for me.
I complete the online form and the total price has always been much lower than any other Company.
The first time I used them, I was very unsure if I had done things correctly so I phoned them. They went through the questionnaire with me and then confirmed everything was correct.
I hope you get sorted out with your insurance cover.

I give up,have tried several of all your recommendations,I am still bring quoted up to £2000.00 for the USA ,I think it's because I have ambulatory oxygen, and IPF is classed as a terminal disease,I will have to hope my son can come home to see me .I think I will risk going to Europe and just rely on the EHIC .Thanks for all your recommendations.Helen08 Avanti quoted me £1798.i have to ask are you all admitting to everything, including its a terminal disease.Sooki
It is disgusting the prices they are quoting day light robbery,Dick Turpin whore a mask!!!
I went to Kenya a few years ago and the travel agent's insurance wanted a stupid amount because I have COPD and also spine blocks so I rang Tesco they had no problem and offered me insurance at no extra cost.
Hi, my husband and I used getmy.com for travel insurance. He had IPF and we travelled extensively in France. I'm afraid we didn't fly so I'm not sure how that may impact on it but we did struggle and found Saga and all the others most unhelpful, even those that claimed to be considerate of pre-existing conditions and we were often blocked at the first hurdle but this company were pretty good we found. Hope you find something acceptable.
All best wishes
Really sorry Avanti couldn't help you Sooki - They definitely understand my husbands rare condition ( most companies won't consider insuring him ) but I do it over the phone rather than online so that there are no misunderstandings . I think they are willing at present because when he has episodes he can usually avoid hospitalisation by using his Home Rescue Pack and also he doesn't have to use oxygen .
