Hi all , I had a single lung transplant 5 years ago , this is my only lung as the other has been completely removed.
New years eve I tested positive for covid 19 understandably I absolutely papped my pants and rung my transplant consultant at Newcastle freeman hospital who straight away arranged for my local hospital to taxi me over a new covid 9 anti viral treatment molnupiravir which I have started straight away. I seem to be ok at the moment and the only symptoms I have is a very sore throat body aches and pain in my lung and extreme tiredness. Has anyone else had this medication and if so did it help ?
I don't know of anyone who has had this treatment but I'm glad to know that your consultant acted so quickly and I hope that the medication works well for you. Best wishes
I have not had Covid so not had medication. However I am on the “list” for priority pcr test if Covid symptoms appear and will be prescribed urgently the new meds for Covid.I wish you better quickly and effectively.
Hello. I tested positive early December and took Molnupiravir too. I was part of the Oxford study. I hope you’ll be fine as long as you start the medication 5 days within symptom onset. It had zero side effects on me. I don’t know if your physician told you how it works. Briefly it greatly reduces the “viral load” of Covid in your body. This makes symptoms less serve which reduces the need for hospitalisation. It’s a good medication. Best of luck.
Hi, yes I also took this after I tested positive for covid mid December. Like yourself I was very anxious when I got the PCR result. Within 2 days my nearest large hospital rang offering me molnupiravir. Had to take 4 tablets twice a day for 5 days. I think I had an allergic reaction on day 3 as had a very itchy rash on my lower back. I rang GP and was told to take antihistamine, as soon as I completed the course of antiviral meds it cleared up. I was very fortunate to only have mild cold symptoms but the anxiety that it would get worse and attack my poorly lungs was dreadful. I’m mainly recovered now apart from fatigue! I wish you all the best.
Wow amazing that you were sent the new drug straight away. Whilst I've no knowledge of it I can say that a friend's husband caught covid back in March/April 2020. The only reason he survived (he has myeloma & already passed his use by date) he'd recently had his regular IV treatment of bloods, antivirals etc & the antiviral was dexamethasone , the antiviral which later saved a lot of covid patients . I'm so glad you're not feeling too bad with it Ejbid. Take care of yourself and do let us all know how you get on. P
So sorry to hear you have covid, but so pleased your consultant acted quickly in getting the meds to you. I wish you well and hope you make a speedy recovery x
Hello Ejbid. I am completely ignorant when it comes to a lung transplants. Can you tell me, what is the criteria and condition for having such a procedure? Secondly after, and only having one lung, how much was your breathing restricted? Let me finish by saying I hope you are keeping well. Regards and happy new year.
