Very random question about budgies is it a bad idea to have one in the same house that I live in ?. I wouldn't be near it and mum would be doing the cleaning side of it Iwould just visit and talk to it from a distance is this a bad idea or not as I know they aren't meant to be good if you have lung problems ,but I really want one and trying to persuade mum .

I had budgies when I was a child - one at a time and a cockateel when my children were little. I used to clean them out myself and never had any bad effects. As your Mum is going to do the cleaning out and I am sure that she will keep the cage squeaky clean, I think that it would be a lovely idea for you to have a little friend to talk to. They are so sweet and pretty.I don’t think that going into large aviaries with quite a few birds and in particular near to pigeon cages is a good idea for us.

The only times I have had problems (as an asthmatic) with caged birds, was when in large numbers and or when cages not cleaned regularly. I nearly stopped breathing completely when went to the Pigeon Show at Alexander Palace!! I had lovebirds in a cage at the foot of my cot as a baby, but this was in Africa, where windows always open and the cage was cleaned out daily. I did spend a little time, when a great deal younger, begging for a pony, but as my mother said she would be the one doing the work, so no I could not.

I don't believe one budgie would do you any harm at all. If worried ring the BLF help line and ask them.

Hi Pokermon. Good idea that ginger suggested, call BLF and ask for their advice. Hope you manage to get one and get some pleasure from it. John

Hi there ......good luck with your bird., whatever make you choose. Hope you have as many happy hours is I do with mine ...However the medical profession are not keen on pet birds and will warn you away from having one .. and find many reasons against having one .....

My boy is a rescue parrot , had him for about a year , because of past treatment he won't sit on my hand and he can't fly properly , but he is now a happy well fed boy.

Because of my chest condition I have several air purifiers around with HEPA filters ......

Which are fantastic at keeping the dust down. It's something all birds have .

Talk to mom and both of you read up on budgie keeping first ....

If you do have a little feathered friend ,. Enjoy ........

I have a cockatiel who drops feathers and worse everywhere. I have severe copd and asthma and the bird doesn't affect me, but I guess we all have different reaction. I wouldn't be without him anyway. Fantastic companion.
