Oxygen concentrator
Hi everyone, does anyone know if we c... - Lung Conditions C...
Hi everyone, does anyone know if we can take oxygen concentrators on board and overseas?
Hi Mrsbutt, yes you can take oxygen onboard a plane, as long as you’ve been assessed by your Respiratory Specialist and are fit to fly, I haven’t been on a cruise, but I believe pre Covid you could cruise using oxygen they did stop you cruising using oxygen when the Pandemic was at its peak, but that might have changed now I know I won’t be going on a cruise, being an oxygen and BiPAP user I don’t fancy being on a floating Petri dish anytime soon.
I hope I have been some help.
Ian.
Thank you xx
Most major airlines allow you to use your concentrator but check with the airline prior to booking as you will require certification in one form or another about your condition, also a requirement is that the battery usage will cover the time from terminal to your destination. My Concentrator was provided by BOC and although I have never been overseas since I have been using it was informed that it can be taken overseas.
If it is yours then yes, if it is provided through the NHS then it is not allowed to leave the country.
You have to let airline know in advance though. They only allow a certain number of oxygen users on a flight. Usually limited to one or two. Joy x
I went on a long haul flight to Jamaica in 2018 and was given the oxygen to use for free there and back whilst on the plane by the airline. My travel agent informed the airline when I made the booking and I was even booked the special seats in the plane and the use of special toilets.
I was accessed by the team at my respiratory centre so you know how much oxygen per litre you will need during the flight. A letter was given me so I could prove I was accessed and my Gp also had to give me a letter.
However I did take my own concentrator to use on my holiday which I was allowed to take on the flight.
