Nebuliser

Advice desperately needed. Pulmonologist has taken me off revlar ellipta and incruse as he said it’s not getting into lungs and prescribed atrovent and pulmicort nebulisers. After 6 days I’m certainly no better and maybe worse. I’ve finished the antibiotics and weaning off prednisone. My question for you brilliant experts is when should I be able to breathe better. Im stage 4 emphysema in 3 litres oxygen 24/7. Thanks

I think you need to see doctor again. Is possible infection that you prescribed antibiotics and steroids for hasn’t cleared up which is why you are struggling so much at the moment. When I am really unwell I use nebuliser and does help far more than blue inhaler.

Thanks for your reply. I think it’s probably my technique. I’ve never been shown how to use nebuliser. Googled some how to videos. I think I’m panicking.

Using a nebuliser isn’t complicated so no need to panick. You put your medication into the chamber, switch nebuliser on, place mask over face and simply breath. I know my nebuliser has an option for only operating as I take a breath but I just have it on continuous and breath normally. Takes around 10 mins to complete. I use a portable nebuliser and the medication comes through quicker than when I used a fixed nebuliser. Took me a couple of goes to get used to it but now no issues.

I still maintain (even if nebuliser technique is poor) that if no better (as you indicate) then you should be contacting gp for support and possibly more medications. It usually takes me several courses of antibiotics and steroids to knock an infection on its head. If you are feeling no better and potentially worse then you need to let gp know this.

Once again thanks for your input. I honestly don’t think I’ve got an infection. I’ll persevere this week and see how I am.
