Antibodies Negative

Hello everyone hope you are all keeping well, in my quest I had been offered the antibody test and although I have been jabbed twice it’s negative. I’m in a flare with Bronchiectasis with a staph infection (it’s been ongoing since February and seems at home now!) so on IVs for the third time. In between many various meds but not successful for very long and it’s dragging back after a short break each time. However, where I felt fairly safe out and about and still SD, masking up etc I feel more paranoid now, having asked the hospital it’s shown that sometimes vaccinations are not so successful in my case in particular.

I’ve been on prednisolone at fairly high levels (asthma) and flares in lungs so I presume it’s not helped this. Has anyone had experience of this?

I’ve been told there are many research areas into this. Apologies for the long post.

My husband had an antibody test some months ago and that was negative. I believe that it isn't uncommon.

Thank you and I appreciate your replies. I will post if I hear of any other news. I’m on the pathway for biologics in between Bronchiectasis so maybe in this area it’s going to shed further information.

Keep safe and well everyone! 🌺

So sorry you're being plagued by this horrible, persistent bug. Wish I could send it some unfriendly vibes. Hope they get on top of it soon. xxxx

I am interested to hear how you go on.

I have been jabbed twice but like you, had a flare up in June and, although I have been told the actual infection has gone, my peak flow remains at an all time low. I had a number of weeks on antibiotics and am still tapering off the Prednisolone. I have wondered if all this may have an effect on the jabs and whether or not I am protected.

I will wait with interest to hear what you find out.

Meanwhile, I hope you manage to shake off the infection and that you feel a lot better soon. xx Moy

Was this the NHS antibody test, if so it doesn’t check for antibodies to the vaccine. It only shows if you’ve had the infection symptomatic or asymptomatic. It’s only the ones you buy privately that check for antibodies to the vaccine. Although many on immunosuppressants didn’t develop vaccines, some do.

No, it was a GOV test looking for all antibodies, Hospital has said that it can be be a mixture of ailments and treatment. They are also looking at research on this, I was told if I caught Covid there are monoclonal areas of treatment that may help on the NHS. Just unlucky I’d imagine, parting shot is to take everything medically offered.

It depends on the type of test. If it was the lateral flow antibody test sent out by various research groups in the uk I believe it mainly picks up on antibodies produced by having had covid rather than having had the vaccine.I too was negative for antibodies after two vaccinations, but a friend, who thought she had had covid very early on in the pandemic, was positive.

Hi Annie you should check out the OCTAVE study. gov.uk/government/news/new-... immune system will be weakened by the steroids hence the booster jab for the immune compromised. However, there’s still research going on in the part that T and B cells play in the fight against Covid.

Have you had your immunoglobulin levels checked? If these are low it could mean your body is not fighting your infection hence your inability to get rid of it. It’s really miserable having constant infections and I hope you can get rid of them soon. 🤗

I will ask when I go back for my next round of IVs my steroids were around 40mg at the time. I’ve reduced quite a lot since then mainly on 5mg maintenance and increasing on flares. (Aspergillosis) asthma and Bronchiectasis. It’s a pain all of this, consistently fighting pseudomonas prophylaxis (Colomycin) and now this never ending staph. Ironically I feel more ill on staph.

Hi Annie 04 my husband and I have been having monthly antibody blood tests for the ONS my husband comes back positive mine negative. My consultant says it has something to do with my cancer/treatment but like you due to my cancer I have to be 100% careful. I have also heard there are quite a lot of people who may not have antibodies.
