hi everyone not been on here for a few months but I had a large pneumothorax in April plus pneumonia and I haven’t had a follow up appointment with respiratory yet but I have so many days of feeling anxious and worrying it’s going to happen again . Like today I’ve had muscle aches and sharpness in my left lung , my breathing is fine sats are good 97 but I can’t shake this worry , I’ve got to say it’s completely changed me as a person I was always doing stuff outgoing nothing phased me super healthy etc now I’m the complete opposite . Has any one else felt this way done reassurance would be really good . X

Oh yes. I am really with you. I had 12 weeks in hospital this year because my lung went down 4 times and I had two pluerodesis procedures when they put medical talc into the lung to attempt to hold the lung up. I am still in pain from the 4 lots of drains and the powder and worry every day in case it goes down again. I am just slowly trying to get my strength back and my confidence. My sats are also 97. It is your breathing, rather than pain which warns you if the lung has gone down again. Very important to gently keep the lungs clear of mucus. I can't suggest much except one day at a time. Don't do anything too strenuous, especially with lifting things or having your arms over your head. We can't let these things defeat us. I hope you feel better soon.

I've never had a really serious long drawn out illness to contend with, but I know a common or garden exacerbation can make you feel as if it's going to last for ever. Best wishes.

I had this happen to me about 3 years ago now and like you was forever thinking it was going to happen again but I think as time passes you begin to think of it less and less. Just take things easy eat well and I am sure you will be fine. I wish you all the best,

Hi Pasta247, I dont post much but read every day here. I understand completely your anxiety. I have severe emphysema and suffer many partial/small/tiny pneumothorax and I know the pain which I now dont go to hospital with to check as the treatment is treat any infection which I can do at home, or, very important, rest, rest, rest and more rest. I had a flare up last week and was in hospital again for 6 days , this time with pneumonia which was the most unwell I have ever felt. It was even worse than the full lung collapse I had in 2015 which required an operation after 4 weeks to clear the infection first.I can only tell you what my consultant then told me on discharge, dont take this as medical advice, just my experience. He said I was now just like any other person who had functioning lungs, but still had to take things easy for a while. My flare ups and exacerbations are self inflicted because I continue to smoke much to my own disgust and contempt. Not just folk like us with lung conditions, most folk need to unlearn all the bad habits picked up since childhood, like dont stretch to get things, slide things along worktops and dont lift, sit to do jobs like ironing and washing dishes. Have everything around you for bathing or showering and dont bend any time unless you really have to. Get up from sitting slowly and do anything slowly, dont rush. Breathing exercises for anxiety are very similar as for COPD, IMHO, so try these. Many videos on you tube and also online NHS or Asthma and Lung UK website. Good luck, try not overthink. Go to GP or nurse if only for some reassurance.

Hope I havent said anything wrong.

I have a cancer and I had a nuclear scan ordered from my GP, because of a constant pain under my right ribs. Scan showed negative but something causing that pain and I just have not been back over that, it bothers me then I forget,
