Is it safe to vape when you have COPD?
Vaping: Is it safe to vape when you... - Lung Conditions C...
Vaping
I don’t have COPD, but I would argue if the choice is vaping as a means of stopping smoking cigarettes (preferably with a view to stopping vaping as quickly as possible after that), versus continuing smoking, then vaping is the lesser evil. However, inhaling anything other than air isn’t good for anyone, and there are reports of lung problems arising from vaping. Less so in the U.K. where the market is regulated, but even though the NHS supports vaping as a means of quitting cigarettes, they also say that it’s not entirely risk free. If you have an underlying diagnosis, that risk is potentially going to be a bit higher, but will still be less than tobacco use.
I have been vaping 6 years since not smoking...I have in the last two years cut down to zero nicotine I use the smallest vape there is and only with a cup of tea ...habits of a lifetime ☺️
When were you diagnosed with COPD BB8? Did u stop smoking and start vaping then ?
6 years ago yes the minute I was told my lungs had 48 % function ... I knew I had it for years previously...just chose to ignore it in all my stupidity..
I had two cigarettes left in my bag went outside and smoked them down to the very last bit ...
went to the vape shop and started on 18 mgs of nicotine juice...
I never put it down but then I got bored and I now only puff when I have a cuppa and havent had any nicotine in the juice for ages now ...its slow going but I'm getting there ...
My last spirometer went test recorded at 86 % function... I know the damage is done and its irreversible damage...
From 48 % 6 years ago that suits me ..
And 6 years ago I couldn't walk the length of myself now it's over 8 miles a day when I'm at work with the dogs 🙈 sorry too long a story I'm being quiet now 💜
Well done BB8 86% fab. I can't do 8 miles but I know stopping at time of diagnosis has preserved my lung health ( I went cold turkey) never vaped. although I don't think they were available when I stopped back then.. I've known a few with same lung damage as me at diagnosis who continued to smoke, sadly they never made it passed 8 years.
You did amazing going cold turkey when you stopped...I wish I had but I smoked 60 a day so was a hard one to lick...
💜💜
There are reports you may want to make yourself aware of. I think if you vape to stop smoking then stop vaping you are less likely to experience further problems from the vaping, but if you continue vaping year after year chances are you may increase the risk of experiencing additional problems.

Definitely good to be aware of the risks.

Thanks Bkin, I actually stopped smoking 3 years ago and due to a very stressful year, have just taken up vaping!
Wish you every success in becoming smoke free again, if that is your intention.
I have a lung disease originated by vaping. Try to avoid my stupid mistakes because my juices where for alimentary use only and i also vaped CBD oil. Do you know evali? So please be careful with what you put in your tank.
My wife's pneumologist and cardiologist are both desperate for her to stop vaping. She stopped smoking about five years ago. Like Charlie G they say anything taken into the lung is bad and an irritant.
Honestly, I just don't trust the vapour liquid stuff. I tried it a couple of times and got the lowest with the nicotine and took the Tabasco taste, I was coughing so much when I tried it , that I stopped again, it was not working for me. I remember that the guy from the shop told me that I do will cough the first couple of times when breathing it in, but it didn't stopped with me, I believe I was coughing because it will damage my lungs. I didn't had the problem with cigarettes, didn't cough at all. But also just smoked 0.01 nicotine with this packed.
So I am sure that it will damage your lungs even more, nothing is healthy for your lungs to breathe in things there are not supposed to get in. Special with asthma, your lungs are extremely sensitive and damage already.
Take care 😃👍
I would say no. However I used vaping as a means to stop smoking and then eventually stopped vaping. There are many questions concerning the safety of vaping even in people without damaged lungs. In the case of people with COPD avoidance of any potential irritant is best avoided.
