Vaping 2!!!

Here I am back with the other half of my post. Will make it fast, before it disappears

again! How many of you quit smoking by vaping? How long have you been doing it?

How did it effect your breathing? Would you still rather have a regular smoke?

Thanks

Rubyxx 😊 😊

I didn't use the vape to stop but my husband decided to try it. The idea was to replace the cigarettes with vaping then slowly reduce the strength and work towards stopping. Two and a half years later.........he is still vaping and I worry for his health.

I think the big thing is making the decision to stop. Once that is done it does not really matter which stopping aid you use. However, if the attempt is made because you think you OUGHT to stop, rather than because you have made a decision to, not much will help. That's my opinion anyway. Good luck to all those trying to stop.

At least your husband stopped smoking. Vaping is definitely a step in the right direction.

Hi Ruby, I can see your post but it's hidden! Gremlins in the works again!

I've never vaped, just never liked the idea. I stopped smoking one day without any patches, pills, gum, or whatever & have never looked back.

I would never start smoking again & would never have started in the first place if I'd known then what it would do to me!

Keep well & take care 🐚

Thats the first time I checked off community, and look what happened ! You should be really proud of yourself stopping with no little helpers. Are you one of the lucky ones, who's breathing got better after stopping? I think vaping is better than smoking.

Can't be worse, that's for sure.

Hi Ruby, yes I think my breathing has improved by not smoking. I certainly feel better but the damage has been done by smoking for 35 years or so.

I'm certain my breathing would be so much worse if I'd kept smoking.

I never regret stopping but I regret starting. Too late to worry now so I just have to live as healthily as I can.

I'm not sure about vaping being harmless. Not enough is known about it.

I do know that smoking is very harmful!

Take care 🌻

I'm still here Tee. Just not as active, since all the bickering.

I think the vaping is a good alternative to smoking. Might not be totally harmless. But than again, what is. Not much. Glad to meet you too.

I started vaping 18 months ago, 13 months before I was told I had copd. I have never gone back to smoking, and all medical staff seem ok with the fact I do vape. I have noticed that my vaping is cutting down also not because Im trying, more because thats how it is. At first my breathing seemed worse but put that down to the gunk I was getting up. Now... I feel great, I exercise more eat healthier and have a better outlook on life. New woman feeling most days!

Hi Jude

Sounds like it's working well for you. Do you use the ones you put the juice in? What level nicotene are you on? Thats a good thing about them. You can taper the strength. Theres so many different kinds. Some really fancy looking ones to.

Glad it worked out so wel for you.😊

At first I got just a cheap vape cig (the one where we put liquid in). But just recently Ive had bought an eleaf mini stack. and I can honestly say its a better vape than the cheap ones though cost a bit more. Maybe that is why I find my self cutting down. Im more satisfied with the more expensive vape. I started off on the 18mg nic and am now on 12mg. maybe get down to nil soon. And I prefer the apple flavour, sometimes with a few drops of menthol in.

xx

Hi ruby, I vape and have been now for 2 yrs, I've not got the strongest will power so this was a great alternative for me and I've not touched a normal ciggie since. I don't do the fruity flavours ( my kids do ) I just use menthol juice as that's what I smoked anyway, to be fair with all the stress of family issues I probably would have smoked again without my tooting pen, and my consultant said he'd rather I had the pen then smoke normal. And to be honest just walking past a normal smoker now hurts me to breath in the smoke and I hate the smell. Xx Sonia xx

I like that--tooting pen. Do you have a fancy one? Some of them are really flashy. You won't believe this, I have 3 of them and never even tried them!

Stubborn me about everything!

Guess that's why I did this post.

How did it effect your breathing?

Thanks Sonia. Maybe I'll get one out and give it a try!

Good question! :D

My GP now calls it 'moderately sever'

I asked what he meant and he replied

"Moderate when you dont get any chest infections, severe when you do"

Go figure, heh, but my breathing is bad when i do get a chest infection, which is quite often

rubyred777 profile image
rubyred777β€’ in reply toldwilliams

My fev1 is around 60.that puts me at moderate. I usually get one chest infection a yr. Around now, when the weather changes.

Since I got my flu jab mon., I'm getting a little wheezy.

Im getting like 1 a month, or More it feels like at times. getting almost constant blocked nose and fits of sneezing, rotten chest etc.

Didnt take the flu jab, as i also have CIDP and there is a slight risk of making that worse, so NO thanks

Hi Ruby Red, I use the Nicorette inhaler, I get the nicotine in a safe way, unlike the e-cigs they have been tested and you can get them prescribed by your GP. I usually get them from e-bay as they are a lot cheaper than through the chemists and supermarkets. Good luck with stopping, I think the secret is never stop stopping, even if you fall of the wagon, it doesn't mean it wont work for you the next time.

rubyred777 profile image
rubyred777β€’ in reply toGradmaP

Have heard of this. How does it control how much nicotene you get? How many puffs in one inhaler? How long have you been using it? Sorry for all the questions. Just checking out the options available.

Rubyxx 😊

GradmaP profile image
GradmaPβ€’ in reply torubyred777

Well it tells you can use up to six cartridges a day but I only use one or two, you know it's empty when you're not getting anything from it, I guess it's all down to how many puffs you have and how hard you draw on it. It's mostly prescribed with patches as a secondary item, however I have kept on using the inhalator long time after the patches where finished. I also used a group smoking cessation clinic at my local hospital, my doctor referred me. it lasts for six weeks and the support of the other members really helps. I've been an on and off smoker since 2000, I was always welcomed back to the clinic and finally gave up 18 months ago with the help of champix, really is a wonder drug if it suits you, I have however fallen off the wagon again but this time to the Nicorette inhaler, guess I'll always been addicted to the nicotine but now hopefully in a safe way. Wishing you lots of luck in your endeavours to beat the evil weed, the secret is never stop giving up. X Vicki B
