Hi all,

Has anyone ever tried one of these air physio devices and if so are they worth it and beneficial?

Thanks

I had a quick Google and see it’s a lung clearance device , various prices too. There are different devices available for lung clearance , some are not suitable for everyone .

If you type air physio into the search box on the top right hand corner of this page you can see previous replies to similar posts.

Maybe the BLF can help UK residents on 03000 030 555 .

Or your health professional .

Thanks so much for your advice. You never know what will be beneficial and what will not. I’ll check out the search box as suggested.

I bought one of these late last year as was having terrible trouble clearing mucus from my chest. I found it did help during the short time I was able to use. I then suffered a pneurothorax (air in my Lungs) and since then have found I cannot use it any longer so for sale if interested

Please don’t sell this on to anyone else with a lung condition. Even with regular sterilisation, lung clearance devices shouldn’t be shared due to the risk of cross infection, and one of my major bugbears with air physio in particular is that they don’t tell people to sterilise it in the printed instructions. They’ve buried an instruction to daily isopropyl alcohol wipe/rinse it on the website, but that’s it, and it takes a separate Google search to find it. If you have a productive condition where you’re prone to bacterial infections, failing to regularly sterilise any equipment means you’re just constantly reintroducing the same bacteria every time you use it.

Good advice and thank you though I have sterilized it with the isopropyl and so should be perfectly ok although I have not tried to sell it on.

Thanks for your advice and I wouldn’t want to buy a used one. The risk of cross contamination is too great

I have one and find it beneficial , if you buy one I suggest you look up on you tube as to the correct way to use it. I gather there are other types of devices that do the same thing but not having tried anything else I can’t compare for you.

Thanks so much and good idea to look it up on YouTube. With all that are available it’s a bit of a minefield out there.

I have had an Aerosure for some years now and it really helps to clear my lungs. However, everyone is different and something else may suit you better.

There is solid science behind the airphysio, in that it’s an oscillating positive expiratory pressure, or OPEP, device. However, they would sell this to anyone they possibly could, regardless of whether it would be beneficial, make some very interesting claims about who is using it, and also don’t advise properly about the need to clean and properly sterilise the device. If you have a productive condition, then OPEP can be useful to clear mucus, but for people who would benefit from OPEP, devices are usually available free of charge (or for the cost of a prescription) on the NHS. It’s also horses for courses: even with a productive condition, OPEP doesn’t help everyone to the same extent.

I don’t know what OPEP is. I’ll have to consult Dr Google. Thanks so much

Hi sorry for late reply wanted to test gizmo first ! Here goes for me it actually works l hate any gadgets machiene in fact technology. However l was becoming desperate so decided to give it a go. So pleased l did had to fiddle to see which breathing cycle worked for me but it was worth it. As l have sever bronchiectasis and asthma anything that helps with mucus clearing and breathing is a bonus. After 2 days of using it l vaccumed up and downstairs yesterday and am going out yes actually out for a coffee today. Hope this helps and good luck if you decide to give it a go x
