You could be right Nanny but Pete is like that most days. Air quality does affect breathing though and he hasn't been out in the high winds today.

I'm in agreement with you Nanny1086 - I've not felt well enough to venture outside for two or three days now and I've put it down to the "bad air". I can sort of taste it mad as that may sound. Hopefully once we have some proper rain, things will be easier to breathe again. Take care.

I find any change in the weather and my breathing changes, today with the rain and wind I find I am breathing heavier.

Nanny1086 profile image
Nanny1086 in reply to redted

Hi ,is that even if you don't venture outside ,?

Yes,for me it is the air more than the weather,as it can be a nice day but if the air is not good I notice the change in my breathing.

Totally agree Nanny, I think the rain has helped a bit as my breathing was better this morning but after a day out in the wind at Bourton on the Water for my wifes birthday I'm wacked out. The air might have cleared a little but fighting the wind just took my breath away.

We were lucky to get a disabled parking place in the main street so I didn't have to walk far and use to much oxygen. We enjoyed a meal in one of the many resturants and Sharon then went on to explore the small nick nack shops while I returned slowly to the car.

All in all it was a good day out with Sharon coming home with a nice little bracelet and me well, I'm easily pleased so I had a Toffee crunch 99 in a top of the range cornet :) .

Keep your spirits up nanny, I also had a bad day at fit to breath on Thursday so lets hope for better quality air now the weathers a bit cooler. xxx

I know what you mean Nanny. Here in the US the pollen count has been up and I read where it's been high in the UK as well. It rained last night, such a relief! Today was much better. Of course if there is a strong wind then all the little pollens come right back in full force. Oh well, stay in, with air conditioning, if possible. Use whatever allergy medicine helps you and take it easy.

Yes me too. I have now got an infection so quickly got my antibiotics and eight a day prednisolone steroids (insomniac tablets i call them ) and I'm now on day three and feel worse!!! I'm sure they don't work on me anymore. My breathing has been very laboured i do hope it is the weather. I'm in London x

I feel for you ,,,,there is no way I could live in London ,,,as much as I love to visit there ,, the air pollution kills me ,,,I can cope for a weekend and that's it ,hope your medication soon kicks in and your on the mend ,

I too have been very bad these last few days with the heat and high humidity, the slightest exercise has been almost impossible with SATs dropping to 83/84. See the GP on Tuesday and resp nurse in 3 weeks, consultant in 4. Hope they can improve things. I am trying hard not to be ill as my lovely husband starts his radiotherapy soon and I don't want to worry him.

Oh dear ,I do hope your hubby has a full recovery ,,,,but you must take care to ,,,,seems us Brits are never happy with our weather ,,,I love spring and Autumn ,,, I see consultant next month ,,,this time last year he was singing my praises on my levels of improvement ,,(,all due to exersise) , ,I'm afraid his opinion will change this time ,,,,

Take care and love and VERY best wishes to you both ,

There was a toxic cloud from somewhere in Europe that affected the S E of Britain & yes to some who said it - you could taste it. When we have breathing problems we are susceptible to any change in air quality. There were quite a few people suffering in the South East of England, & especially Kent who have been affected. Combined with tree pollen it can really take it out of you. Trust your own judgement, our bodies know when things are not right & air quality is poor. Take care all☺

I try to trust my own judgement ,,,,but sometimes I think I'm being over cautious,,,,but as I get older to,,,,,it doesn't seem to take much to knock me off my feet ,,,,and I really don't think I'm fully recovered from the December/January/February/March chest infections and pneumonia and pleurisy,,( and a double prolapse ) ,,I've really struggled at pulmary rehab to,,,,,my fitness levels have defiantly dropped this last year ,take care and thanks for your comment ,

The steroids can knock down our immune system in the long term, resulting in slow healing. Usually we see improvements in 3-6 mths but it can take 2-3yrs to recover properly from all that you have been through especially if you are like me & over 60. Although they are used for a strong fix when people are seriously ill, the side effects from steroids are often long lasting. Really I think that follow up reflexology & similar can help overstressed adrenals & all body systems affected by the trauma of illness. It's worth treating yourself to a a session with a good reflexologist or aromatherapist to pep up our system. Herbal teas like lemon & ginger are very palatable & good for us. Herbs can often cure illness rather manage it, but it is important to remember that it takes a long time for herbs to work at least 1 month for every year that you've had an illness. A good herbalist will often recommend lifestyle changes & good nutrition for more permanent recovery, but improved health is worth all the effort. I'm an optimist & believe that there are many more solutions than are known about or untried by orthodox practitioners. We do have to ask questions & search about, but the answers are there for the taking. Better health be yours asap ☺

Yes, I have been wheezy for the last few days, taking increased doses of Symbicort/duoResp and ventolin\salbutamol. Not really working. They ease the wheeze for about an hour. Feel bit better when we put the air conditioner on to dry the air. Coughing a bit as well. Just annoying wheeze preventing me from doing much. If it continues tomorrow I will be ringing the Community Respiratory team. I am on double dose antihistamine. Must be something in the air to cause so many of us to be breathless and or wheezy. Keep breathing out...

Hi ,it seems I'm not alone ,,,,,which makes ME feel better ,,,but I feel for those suffering like me ,,,,I miss going out with my friends ,even a trip to church has been put off today ,,as there's no way I could sit there and sing out those lovely hymns,,, I would end up coughing and spluttering and embarrassing myself ,,,it's my last week at PR this week ,so it will be interesting to see the improvement results ,,,,,if any ,,,take care and thank you ,

I was going to go to church today as well. Better not as there may be bugs as well. I love singing, even though out of tune or croaking.

I thought it was me being wimpy again, felt poorly for the past fortnight. My 94 year dad has more get up and go at the moment. One of my pet hates is lying in bed and listening to my wheezy lungs when I get bored with the same old wheeze have a cough and listen to a new wheeze, such an adventure. Must try and cheer up I've become a right old misery lately.

Snap ,I feel wimpy to ,haha,,,,,my get up and go ,,,,,has got up and gone ,,,thank goodness I had my nebuliser last night ,,,,I try not to use it ,,,as I don't want to rely on it ,but I was grateful to have it last night ,,,,and possibly again later ,the nights are long when we Lie there listening to our breathing ,,,hubby has now taken to another room ,,,,,as I now put the tv on the bedroom and put it on timer ,,,,,so far that helps ,,,,at least with the boredom of lying awake all night ,,,,,, take care

Yes, I have had a horrendous few days (and nights) I haven't quite pinned down how it all affects my day to day health yet, had to many other things going on needing to keep track of.

But intend keeping a diary of weather and symptoms on a daily basis.

Not that you can do much about it ??

Nanny1086 profile image
Nanny1086 in reply to

A diary is a great idea ,,,,,for weather and health comments ,,,,

Back in 1992 after a stay in Icu with septasyma,,,I decided to keep a diary not just for my health comments but day to day achievements and things to do etc etc ,,,,,sadly as the years have passed ,,my diary has got smaller and smaller ,,,I think I'd manage with a pocket diary now haha ,,, as I don't seem to writing much but hospital reminders etc etc ,,,

I have you have some lovely things to add to your daily comments ,take care ,

Hi ,thanks mmzetor ,same weather here in Lichfield ,,,,didn't think I would be affected so much if I stayed in ,,,i see consultant next month ,,,think he'll be dissapointed ,,,,last year he was over the moon with my levels ,,,,but as I ve been restricted on exersise since before Xmas I'm sure/know my levels will be down ,,,,we will see,,, as I'm also having lung function tests in the laboratory again (once a year thing ) bring on Autumn ,
