I would say you can as my husband regularly takes both these medications together, but always best to check with your GP or chemist if you’re not sure.

Hi Thisisthetime, and I'd be contacting your GP to double check.these meds- it will put your mind at rest too because on this forum we aren't Medical people, we can only give you our experiences etc. 🐿🌈😷.

There is no specific contraindications with prednisolone but if you're on statins you should stop taking them while on clarithromycin.

Don't bother wasting your doctor's time - you don't need to be a doctor to know the answer, just read the patient leaflet - if there is contraindications it'll be on there; if there is then contact your Dr .

Hope you're better soon.

I have so not a problem. All I would say is that clarithromycin has an adverse affect on my taste so spoils food. Does not affect all however. Strong antibiotic. If you need it an alternative for me is doxycycline; take the clinicians advice of course.

Hi Timberman may I ask how you are doing on Doxycycline? I have had the bad taste with Clarithromycin and also very dry mouth, I have to say I have been on others too but not having a lot of luck, allergies etc, I have just been given Docycylcline now one a day fro 3 months to see if that's any better, so far so good!!

With Doxycycline you have to stay out of the sun . P

I have no problems with doxycycline. You should note that the person warning to stay out of the sun is correct - that does not mean staying indoors; just not spending too long too exposed to direct sunlight. Its all on the monograph in the packet.

PS - A&E are not respiratory specialists so would not know all the alternative drugs; all clinicians have their favourites! Do you have a COPD team near you? Or a respiratory nurse at your surgery? Either will be more knowledgeable of COPD.

Thank you for your reply, I did read the note on staying out of the sun and will be careful, I have been given doxycycline one a day for three months to see if that will stop frequent flare ups and infections, wish me luck

Absolutely. Its common to take them together. At least Clarithromycin is a very good antibiotic, as soulszver mentionedlay off statins for the week if you normally take them. Well done you for going to a&e for help 👏 👍

I have bronchiectasis as well as COPD. I am also colonised with pseudomonas. When I have a flare up the usual antibiotics don’t work. Prednisalone and ciprafloxacin when taken for at least two weeks seem to work but make me feel quite ill. I have to avoid dairy products when on ciprafloxacin. I was once given clarithromicin but had a very bad reaction so think I am allergic to that antibiotic.

It may work really well for you.

Hope you feel better soon.

Read the patient info in the abs packet otherwise ask the pharmacist . Mostly abs and steroids are prescribed for lung disease flare ups .
