When was Manchester moved to the south east of England?

I received an email from the D.H.S.C. yesterday for 'clinically extremely vulnerable persons' which included the following:-

On 19 December, the Prime Minister announced that some areas in the south and east of England would be subject to new local restrictions and be placed into Tier 4 from 20 December. This includes the area where you live and is due to a fast rise in infections caused by the spread of a new variant of COVID-19.

The new Tier 4 restrictions are rules that apply to everyone in your local area and which everyone must follow. The full details of these rules can be found online at gov.uk/coronavirus. The Prime Minister also set out changes to the Christmas bubble policy and confirmed that in Tier 4 areas Christmas can only be spent with your own regular household members.

I live near Manchester, in a Tier 3 area. All my details on the email were correct. Has anyone else outside Tier 4 received one of these?

Ring up Andy Burnhams office, I'm sure they'd be interested to know they're now in Tier 4! You may even get an answer to your question.

As Bkin has pointed out how can Manchester possibly be aligned with London and the southeast?

As an update, although they have had no proof yet, Andy Burnham made a statement this afternoon to the effect he thinks the variant virus maybe there already but if not it will be there soon!! So you may be in Tier 4 before you know it!

UPDATE.Correction received.

Dear .....,

Important information about a recent email communication you have received.

We are writing to you because we recently sent updated advice and guidance to all of those patients who are currently considered clinically extremely vulnerable and who live in an area of the country recently identified as “Tier 4: Stay at Home”.

Unfortunately, due to an issue in the identification of those local authorities that fall within Tier 4, you were incorrectly included in the communication sent to clinically extremely vulnerable patients in Tier 4 areas. This relates to advice and guidance issued to you by email on 21st December (using your NHS registered email address). You may also receive a letter in the post in due course.

We apologise for the issue and for any concern it may cause you and others.

Yours sincerely,

Shielded Patient List Programme

Ha ha ha ha! Sometimes I think those who run this country couldn't run a trip to a brewery.

I don’t think Vanner wanted a geography lesson just to know if anyone else had received a similar letter, which was a mistake anyway. Barbs

Thanks Barbs47. You hit the nail on the head. Having lived in Manchester all 78 years of my life, apart from 2 years working in Turkey, I certainly know all about the area. In fact I taught Geography for a short time. Perhaps Bkin wanted to enlighten people on this forum who do not live in England. No one has posted so far that they have also received such a letter. I have a non-clinical contact in the NHS who said they would look into it, and the following day I received a letter correcting the mistake and apologising.Best wishes, Trevor

Th a k goodness it was a mistake. Manchester have been in tier 3 for so long you have all suffered enough. Having said that numbers are climbing again in Merseyside so I think lockdown is inevitable after Christmas. Take care. Maximonkey
