vaccine priorities

It seems no-one is a voice for the clinically vulnerable. Hardly ever mentioned in the news bulletins and appear to be a long way down the vaccine list. Surely this can't be right. Lung diseases ( personally IPF) make us very vulnerable. Why is nobody speaking up for us.

I know how you feel but I understand that our own doctors will have some say who is vulnerable and should have the vaccine earlier. They should know which of their patients should have it. Let's hope so.

The priority list isn’t set in stone & may change, but atm the data gives age as the most important factor in covid deaths, so my (slim, fit) older husband will get the vaccine before me (with several co-morbidities.) I suppose there’s no time to consider individual cases. I’ll just carry on shielding. Hopefully it won’t be too long

There is awareness, check out the list on this page for the vaccine priority.

I think the order of priority is acceptable.

I noticed that. What about someone say, in their 20's or 30's, having chemotherapy, by the list they would be near the bottom. That can't be right. Those who are clinically extremely vulnerable, regardless of age, should be just after care home residents and staff.

No. 6 ---- high-risk adults under 65 years of age

This advice assumes availability of a vaccine which is safe and effective in all age groups and has a moderate impact on transmission.

Hello Catwoman50, appreciate what you are saying and not sure the most vulnerable are being given priority, but with such a small vaccine option I personally feel staff on the front line should be first, we who are extremely vulnerable can at least reduce our exposure to infection , those in hospitals and care homes cannot. Seems Age once again is a swaying factor in who goes first. On a lighter side Age before beauty as they say and remember in the early days a pledge was made to care for the older members of our society including the extremely vulnerable as established by medical records. Have a good day.

I agree with everyone that front line workers of course should come first, and greatly appreciate their care and putting themselves in danger for others. Where would we be without them.

But very many over 70s & over 75s are very fit and well and its my belief that the people diagnosed as highly at risk should be the second category to be protected. They are, after all also the ones who are most, likely going to end up in hospital. Which is stated in the shielding letter and what the government is trying to avoid A) because the risk to tem becomes higher & B) because they fill beds.

The shielded have not been clearly considered and the general public have no idea that shielding no isolating mean entirely different things. The vulnerable need to be recognised and the information transparent instead of digging around on government websites for information.

Agreed, there is a difference between isolation and the clinically extremely vulnerable. My son says the clinically vulnerable are supposed to be second on the list after front line staff irrespective of age . Its just the wording from the powers that be is not too clear. Now it appears that GPs may not be able to meet the demand of giving these vaccines along with other work which is not of course surprising. THere is only so much work can be done in a set time. . So fingers crossed those of us who need it will fortunately get it in time to save lives.

I think that is the trouble Katie, in that nothing has been clear from the beginning. I think most people are happy to obey the rules ( if they understand them) consistency , clarity & proper communication is a fair ask in return.

I have no wish whatsoever to push in front of anyone more in need/ vulnerable than myself but neither do I want to be written of because I'm vulnerable. I'm already living with a frightening & life limiting condition as are many of us on here. The support here is very heartening.

Keep well all xx

Well said, I felt at the very begining as if we had just been written off, a few more that don't have to be seen. Now I have been told my knee /leg may never get back to normal because of the wait for treatment partly caused by lockdown. Its never ending trying to work things out one important word that you used is consistency. Enjoy the rest of your day .

No one wants to hear about any kind of terminal illness, period! That's why elderly people become invisible when they reach "Old Age!!" Whooooo People are so cruel, self centered and don't want COPD, cancer, old age , etc to remind them of their mortality!! They are so busy keeping up with Jones or stabbing each other in backs on Facebook! We just gotta stick up for ourselves! Get our shots, meds, anyway we can! But I'm not so sure I want these new COVID vaccine. Are ya'll sure?? Leslie
