I’ve never done painting before and me and my sister have just been to an art class with the theme of waves...here’s what I came up with. It’s not Picasso 😂😂😂 but I enjoyed it for a first go!

Thank you...it was interesting, because there were six of us & none of us had done art& everyone came up with something good....well in my opinion

Thank you 😊 I was quite proud of my effort. Sometimes it’s good to try something new for a challenge isn’t it.

Are you still in Cornwall, don't go out Dee that sea looks rather wild at the moment in comparison to your photo you posted some days ago. :) x

madonbrew profile image
madonbrew in reply toskischool

😂😂😂...still in Cornwall. Back to Dorset on Saturday. I think Bournemouth,Poole &Christchurch might be going to tier 2...which I’m just outside of, but my sister and her family will be in.

It’s certainly been a bit choppy though!

skischool in reply tomadonbrew

Tier 2 ...Luxury...we have been in virtual lockdown for the last few months but i did manage to have a conversation with a petrol pump this afternoon ,her name was diesel and she wondered where i had been though she didn't recognise me in my mask. :) x

madonbrew profile image
madonbrew in reply toskischool

Oh dear...I really do feel for you all you guys in tier 3!

skischool in reply tomadonbrew

We will survive,we are made of tough stuff oop north. :) x

HungryHufflepuff profile image
HungryHufflepuff in reply toskischool

Well being even further north than you we wanted to out-do you people further south and have five tiers. But just to keep it interesting, our tiers start at Tier 0 and go up to Tier 4. So if you're in the second tier it's called Tier 1. The rules are different in the different tiers. But don't get confused about whether you're in Tier 2 or the second tier. I guess the good thing about it all is, we're so preoccupied trying to figure it all out that it's a great distraction from the worry of the coronavirus 🤣

skischool in reply toHungryHufflepuff

As they say HH it will all end in Tiers. :)

The coast in Cornwall is truly mad atm! I can attest to that as my son and I went to Widemouth yesterday and the amount of foam being blown across the beach was insane. The tide was being held in too and the waves were travelling at least twice the normal distance. Really was amazing to see.

I would attach a photo but it won’t let me.

The painting is very mood invoking. I would be inclined to say you have a flare for art. Good stuff.

madonbrew in reply toladytelita

Yes, where we are...Polperro, it’s very choppy, but so beautiful too!

Thank you! I’ll have to try doing some more at home, but might be a bit tricky without the teacher teaching us the techniques 😊

Whoa.... that's really beautiful Dee. Is it oil ? I'd say you have a wonderful talent you've just discovered!! xx 🎨🖌️

madonbrew profile image
madonbrew in reply toCaspiana

Thank you Cas! It was really nice to try! My sister did one too...totally different final piece. It was only a 2 hour class! I think she was a particularly good teacher! Yes, it’s acrylics. There were 6 of us in a cafe , 2 children and 4 adults and all of us managed to do something we were proud of! Don’t think any of us had done painting before.

Hmm, I’ll try do some at home but I’m not sure it will be quite so successful without the teacher showing us some techniques 😊

Sky are doing portrait artist of year on Freeview 11 . Try watching what they do . And there has been something on landscapes on bbc 4 at 7.30 called joy of painting. It helps a lot to watch t how to do it. You already have achieved a lot with your painting , just keep doing it.

I watch BBC 4's Joy of painting. It's really good. Bob Ross who does the show has such a relaxing voice and I love the technique 's he shows to do the painting easier. Anyone interested in oil painting, I would highly recommend the programme. Jan x🏞🏔🗻

madonbrew in reply toJaybird19

Thank you Jaybird,

It was just a 2 hour class...it’s amazing what you can learn within 2 hours if someone teaches you!

We don’t have Sky, but I watch the joy of painting 🖼 sometimes. He’s very calm and does some amazing paintings!

Jaybird19 profile image
Jaybird19 in reply tomadonbrew

Yes I found that you do need a teacher, someone you can ask. Its easier with acrylics which do more what you want whereas watercolour has a mind of its own !

The sky programme is on freeview number 11 this year I dont have sky either and only an old Tv. Really well worth watching as you see very different techniques . This week 9 artists, one artist drawing in colour on black paper even. So detailed. Another transferred her drawing to material with a sewing machine and then planned to transfer colour but ran out of time. So couldnt see it finished and cannot see the point of that. One painted using her fingers instead of brush ! And one used pastels. All different approaches. You learn a lot in an hour watching them work. Theres also lots on u-tube . You were lucky to find a class. My class is not allowed here and the teacher has lost her income. and even another group of retired who meet socially to paint cannot meet legally.

Just w hen we really need it!

It looks great. Well done!

Art is so therapeutic? I have been in a group for 6 years and love it! I can only work in watercolour due to oils etc giving fumes off.The group had to stop 9 months ago due to Covid but our leader is trying to fix something up with just six of us and full Covid precautions. I love your picture, the colours etc. There is a vibrancy about it. You can get Sky Arts on Freeview now,Channel 11. I highly recommend Portrait Artist of the Year. Just love that programme!x

madonbrew in reply toAingeful

I think the teacher was a trained art therapist. It was acrylic paint 🎨... I wouldn’t have had a chance with oils first time!

Aww yeah, that sounds good...it’s something I d probably enjoy too 😊

Wow Dee this is really good and working with oils isnt easy, looks like you have found a calling. I wish there was something near to me , I would love to take up art. I havn't found anything so far and covid has put the kibosh on lots of things. Keep it up, I look forward to seeing our little artist flourish x

madonbrew profile image
madonbrew in reply toIzb1

Thank you! It’s acrylic actually... I wouldn’t have a chance trying first with oils!!!

Aww, you are sweet! I’m not sure I’ll manage to do another one without the teacher but I’ll give it a go when I get home!

Do you have any crafty stuff at home? I just enjoy giving it a go even if I’m not good! Feels like an achievement!😊

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply tomadonbrew

I have loads of craft stuff, I am like you just enjoy being creative but dont have the motivation , which is why I think joinging a class would be good for me, plus its good to be shown something different. Keep us updated with your creations, it may give me a kick up the bottom and get my stuff out x

That is lovely. Superb. I am so impressed, you have got so much movement in it, and a very clever use of colour. And it is not over painted, you know when to stop. You have an excellent eye.

Wow with knobs on.

What medium?

It looks like acrylic?

madonbrew profile image
madonbrew in reply toKatinka46

Thank you Kate...yes acrylic. I feel like I slightly over done the white in the waves, and actually the little boat in front I went over& put tiny one nearer mountain because I realised it wasn’t proportionate to my picture! But considering I was my first go I felt quite proud of myself!

Have you started your painting of my view yet?

Katinka46 profile image
Katinka46 in reply tomadonbrew

I have but I think you can do your own! I love acrylic. I did a lot of watercolour, which I love, very luminescent, but it is very demanding and mistakes are glaring. The tutor did a day on acrylic, he said, "The worst thing about acrylic is that it dries quickly, the best thing about acrylic is that it dries quickly." I love because it suits my slapdash style, the very first one I did I thought "Yay!!" this is for me. And the great thing is that you can paint over mistakes.

Love

Kate xx
