Hi Horseygirl - I was very interested in your post and the benefits of singing or harmonica playing as regards breathing and the effects on your lungs. Your beginning lessons on the harmonica sound exciting. Let me cast aside some worries you may have about mastering tunes.
Basically, "When the Saints Go Marching In" uses only three (yes 3) chords. There are many songs you could learn with just 3 chords, though with a C harmonica those songs can only be played in the key of C. Your guy will teach you those chords. And most down to earth blues tunes use only three chords. So there are no real obstacles ahead!
I'm a pianist and am a volunteer ward musician at two London hospitals. Occasionally I write up an account of my visits. I play piano in one hospital and use a Bluetooth speaker and Spotify playlists to play patients musical requests. On Monday last I played "Oh What a Beautiful Morning to a guy that said he liked Musicals and he mentioned Oklahoma. The patient and I sang the song together, as the song blared out of the speaker.
Lets hear more from you as the season progresses! David.
