I would like to know if anyone has tried the Air Physio device to clear mucus or can recommend any other device?

Hi Hannah,

I have looked at the Air Physio device. I have had one which seems to be exactly the same for about eight years. It was considerably less expensive than this. Both devices seem to work on the acapella principal, although of course, Air Physio claim that theirs is slightly different. It even looks exactly the same as the one which I have. Very expensive for what it is.

I use an Aerosure device which uses electrical power to cause the resistance and vibration which loosens the mucus. It is more expensive than the Air Physio but is very effective for me with bronchiectasis. Far more effective than any acapella device. I have had it for over ten years.

I hope that helped you to decide.

Hi Littlepom, I haven't heard of this method and it wasn't mentioned on the Pul. Rehab. Programme. How did you come by yours? Did you buy it yourself and if so I would be interested in getting one as you appear to find it better than an acapella.

Hope you are feeling a bit easier these days.

Xx

Quite a few people on here use various ‘flutter’ devices to loosen the mucus. Some work better than others, depending on which condition you have and personal preference. The GP or the hospital clinic can provide you with certain ones on the NHS but do not always let you know that. There is also something called a flute which works treat for some people but was a waste of my money.

I prefer the aerosure because the motor takes a lot of the hard work out of it . With the others, it is the strength of your blowing which makes it vibrate. I’m afraid that it isn’t available on the NHS. ( unless somebody proves me wrong)

I bought mine from the aerosure website. If you do decide to buy one make sure that you get the vat back because you are buying it for a medical condition.

I have an aerosure medic also and have found it very useful using it with the huff method always works. The aerosure loosens the mucus and the huff method clears it.

Worth a look at the website it has a video.
