I have recently seen this device as a drug free option that claims to improve lung capacity. Does anyone know anything about this or used one ? Any advice appreciated thank you

I recall seeing quite a few opinions about Aerosure PEP device on this forum. You can find them by using the search box. OH bought one a good while ago and uses it every day. It has been very useful for his lung hygiene. He has asthma/bronchiectasis/colonised with pseudomonas so really needs to keep his lungs clear.

Thank you Bella, is it like a flutter device do you know?

It is similar in action. He has both devices.

Just asked him and he says it is a lot better than the Flutter. He thinks it is “50%” better. It has two modes - one for clearance and the other to strengthen/exercise respiratory muscles.

Thank you Bella

I have had one for about 15 years. It works by producing a resistive vibration by a motor instead of the patient having to do it by blowing. I have bronchiectasis and find it very useful when the mucus is sticky and difficult to move. I would not say that it improves lung capacity though. In fact, I have never heard that claim for it. I am wondering if the one you have seen is a device manufactured by revitative to which they are attaching the aerosure name. If you want one buy it from aerosure themselves and remember to get the vat back.

Hi

It’s a two mode device, the first button press is mucus clearance the second button press is lung strength.

You are right in saying Best Buy from Aerosure they do better bundles.

I have just purchased the the full bundle, device, spare heads, spare mouthpieces and carrier bag £141.66

I only ever use it on the strongest setting when the gunk is sticky. I haven't noticed any difference in my lung capacity but then I had six years of teaining as a child and daily physio to bring my breathing to the optimum. However we use it I think it is by far the best device and worth the money. I have never had to replace any of the parts in all those years. I hope that you find it useful.

For mucus you press the switch once, top light shows. Breath in /out 15/20 times, remove device and huff or cough to aid the clearance of mucus normally.

Breath easy mode, press the button a second time the bottom light will show.

Place device in mouth and breath in/out for five minutes twice a day.

A third press will turn of the device, rinse mouth piece under hot water tap, ready for next use.

Thank you😊

I know, good business tactics. I don’t use it a lot and I put the head in an electric steriliser from time to time. Motor still working fine. Guess I had my money’s worth.

The head and mouthpiece has never been changed on this one and it works perfectly well. It is taken apart, cleaned and sterilised. Does anyone know why they tell you to change the head six monthly? Seems an awful waste.
