Hi all

I just wanted to know if anyone had ideas on Bal readings. I was just wondering what it means and what's good or bad levels?

Hi Carkaisabellacolin,

Bronchoalveolar Lavage is a diagnostic method that can be used for multiple purposes. Here is a selection of links:

Thank you

As per 2greys reply, BAL is a procedure, not a test in its own right. The most common purpose is to gather samples for microbiological culture, although unfortunately, whilst the odds of obtaining pathogens via BAL are generally higher, it can be just as hit and miss in catching what’s down there as spontaneous sputum is known to be.
