Louise from Respiratory team called at my home yesterday. Stayed 2 hrs. Baffled as to why my oxygen is so low and heart rate high even sitting down with oxygen 24/7
Lungs dont seem infected badly but problems with mucous getting stuck in throat and closing airway. This causing extremely frightening anxiety/panic attacks lasting over 20 mins most scariest thing ever. Truly thinking the end has come gasping for air.
Used to be able to control these but at present nothing helps just panic.
I have had my medication increased to 4 times normal doses. Nebulizer 4 times daily also. Louise e mailed GP for more meds needed urgently today.
I cant help thinking all these problems stems from being diagnosed with underactive thyroid . I had no symptoms of this just breathlessness. Was told 4 months ago I would be running around by Summer on medication well its completely reverse .also says I would put weight on but I have lost weight
Will have to mention this to nurse today as maybe wrong dose of thyroid Meds.
I will keep you informed, time consuming day on Nebuliser 4 times a day and medication increased 4 times .also antibiotic and weaning off steroids on top of all other meds.
I just want my life back also my Positivity as everything going horribly wrong and I am scared no way back.
Never suffered depression but now can only see the dark side
Not like me I know and only I can get myself back on track .
Apologies for the moan going to really try and be Positive today and calm down
Thanks to all my lovely friends on this forum for your best wishes I appreciate your support.
My apologies to anyone going through much worse than myself I will pray for you all xxSheila π·ππβ

Oh Sheila, Iβm so sorry to read you are having a bad time, and that it has unsurprisingly pulled down your mood. I know you work hard at keeping yourself ticking over, and staying positive, and can understand how frustrating it is to find yourself struggling.
I hope your additional meds help, and that they keep working at that until a good response is achieved π€π
Oh Sheila, I'm so sorry you're going through this. It is so scary not being able to breathe. I tell myself repeatedly "Your body wants to breathe, it will fight to breathe" and when I remember my body is on my side, it helps calm me,
It sounds as though the medics are right with you which is good, I hope all the extra meds help soon and you are back to being you again π C'mon nearly twin, you got this π¦π»π
You may well have hit the nail on the head re your thyroid issue. When mine went into overdrive some years ago, I felt really ill. I didn't have the breathing problems when it started but GP prescribed something that caused asthma attacks. A change of meds did the trick.
Mine was overactive so different meds from yours, but I had no idea until then how rough you could feel with dodgy thyroid.
I hope that is the cause of your current issues as, if so, the right meds could get you back on track.
What you're going through right now is enough to make anyone scared. Thank goodness you have the nurse on board to fight your corner and get something done.
((((( β€οΈ))))) Virtual hugs to you, dear friend. I hope things improve quickly for you. ππΉπΈπΊπ·π»
Sounds like another thyroid test may be needed. ( Have you seen an endocrinologist? if not, maybe ask for referral?) Some years ago I had elevated heart rate and breathlessness, and was admitted to the hospital and released as they couldn't find anything wrong. The next night my lungs just stopped working, luckily my daughter was home to call for the ambulance. I won't bore you with the rest ( I know, too late right?) Turns out I had a Thyroid Storm - untreated / under treated Thyroid nearly did me in. Use that term Thyroid Storm - make them say you're not having one or the beginnings of one. Oh, and I was on meds that got screwed up, I nearly had another Storm, and decided to get the thyroid removed. I take synthroid, and see my endo once a year.
Like you I am on a reducing dose of steroids β¦..ended up in A and E last week β¦.so breathless , huge panic attack β¦.so put back on a higher dose . Back on reducing dose now. Plus doxycycline.
Canβt understand why they reduce your steroid dose while you are so breathless β¦.mention it to your nurse today . It looks like my body canβt cope after all these years on pred .
Hopefully the four nebulisers will be temporary until your breathing improves and antibiotics work . They were for me , now only need in an emergency .
Blood test for thyroid too.
breathlessness , panic β¦terrible feeling , I do sympathise .
Wishing you all the best β¦.you are an inspiration to me , so smart and positive . Been looking at nice handbags since you posted photos of yours !
And thinking of all the times I must have passed your house when driving to Carmarthen via Heads of the Valley . I have pictures of the Gower, Crosshands and Towy Vallley in my house .
So sorry the that are having a bad spell, Sheila, but I'm confident that you will regain your positive attitude given time and with help from the medics. Might I suggest that you take a step back and read some of the messages of encouragement that you have posted to others in the recent past? Sometimes in times of stress that you can forget your own advice that you have helped other to overcome similar situations. Love Don πxx
I know Don but I cant pull myself back this time . Really scared and cant see the light at the end of the tunnel only a black hole.xxkeep safe and well my lively friend xxSheila ππβπ·
Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there Sheila. You've been there before and come back. Work at that chest clearance, that's the secret. xx
Bless you Sheila, we all know that this isn't like you, I can totally understand how scary it is so my heart goes out to you. You've been so kind in supporting everyone here to be positive.
I hope you know how loved you are here, that we're all thinking of you and sending positivity back your way for a change. It's good to know that that you have a Louise rooting for you and getting the best for you.
Everything crossed that the meds help.
Enormous hugs from Gloucestershire π π π π§‘
We're holding you up for as long as it takes to improve my dear π πΉ π
I am so sorry that you are having such an awful time. I know from what happened to me this year that when you have been used to controlling the symptoms which your condition throws at you., when something happens that is different and prevents you living life as usual, it is scary and deeply frustrating. I do hope that they get to the bottom of the cause quickly. Your hunch about your thyroid med could be spot on as they are notorious for causing problems.
Please donβt feel guilty because you have temporarily lost your positivity. This is to be expected when you have nothing in the armoury to fight the new and unknown enemy. Lean on us, if you feel frightened, angry, at a loss let it out to us.
We have all been there and we have all benefitted from the way that you have lifted us in our hard times.
I am thinking about you and sending you much love.
Having mucous stuck in your throat is very frightening Sheila as Pete can testify. I sincerely hope you get the help and support you need and will soon get back to being you.
I think the most frightening thing is when you find you canβt breath OUT. Having difficulty breathing in is something most have got used to , but not being able to breath out seems almost alien and is very frightening.
Itβs some time now since I had that experience but it made me promise myself I would never let that happen again. Keeping the chest clear of mucus is of paramount importance. If does happen the advice is: βPlace a hand on your stomach and slowly breathe through your nose. Fill your stomach with air and let it expand as you inhale and decompress as you exhale. Inhale for 2 counts and exhale for 4 counts. Do this for about 5 minutes in a comfortable position to calm your breath and destress.β
Thanks Don I'm determined to get back on track. The nebuliser 4 times daily helps . No panic attacks yesterday fingers crossed I am back in control. Really going to try and get dressed when I get up in the.morning. Life is too short need it back .ππ€π€goodnight my lovely friend xxSheila πβ
Have walked in your shoes Sheila and understand how frightening it is. I'm sure that in time you will get through this and feel like your self again. Best wishes, Carole xx
Hope u feel better soon.with bronchiectasis+ severe asthma, among whole list of problems,I produce lot of mucous and mucous plugs but knowhow to get it up.pls read up both on " controlled breathing" and " lung clearance" techniques.when u learn to keep calm with breathin, youll b able to get the mucous up .it takes practise & commitment x
You will get there,Sheila.once u can clear mucous, it's 1 less problem & give u back control gerwell soon x
The Mayo Clinic website gives tight chest and laboured breathing as the first two of a long list of side effects of levothyroxine. I am hopeless at putting links but thought you might like to know.
Thank you I am convinced it's the Levothyroxine that's causing my problems. I've asked team to check blood tests etc and dosage. Xxππ€πβSheila
Only just this minute has your email come through. I can't tell you how sorry I am that you continue to have such a wretched time. But, there's always a solution. May not seem like it now, but trust all the many lung buddies you have on here. Collectively, we all know a thing or two, and I really hope advice helps. Like others, am also impressed with Mayo Clinic, so do take Littlepom's advice. πΊπΊ xxx
Thank you will do. Need any help I can get. Usually able to control symptoms but unfortunately this is a different level. Scary . Still no better today. Take care good health xxSheila πππβ
Garshe holding you in my thoughts and prayers.I do hope that you feel better soon - it's quite natural to be downhearted at times.Remember how many of us you have helped on this forum - you are amazing and I can't wait to see another beautifully Co ordinated outfit when you are feeling better x
Thank you. Been in PJ'S for 3 weeks. .going to try and wash hair and bath but scared as have to take oxygen off . Gary on school run and calling M&S food shopping. Miss going with him and gone alone . I seem to have slipoed into deep depression something I have never suffered from. Health anxiety yes, but NEVER depression . Need to get this sorted now. Oxygen still low even with 24/7 oxygen. Take care .lots of love xxSheila πππβ
Just want to say how much I admire your positivity and determination. I hope that your breathlessness is soon under control and that you can get back to normal. Keep on keeping on!
Thinking of you Sheila, what a scary time you are having and I really hope that you are feeling better soon and the gp gets something done for you quickly
They're not listening and I'm almost Positive its the Thyroid medication that's brought this on. Oh well maybe today will be s better day . π€ππβxxSheila Thank you xx
I'd ring 111 today+ ask to speak to a Dr re thyroid meds.Meanwhile,wake up +get the mucous up,keeping breathing controlled.once it's up,breathing will b easier.i do it after nebuliser,put some music on + work on technique. X
I tell you what, you moan all you like chook, I think you deserve to. I am truly sorry for what you are going through and the thought of depression rearing it's ugly head that's something nobody wants. I really hope they get to the bottom of things for you so you can look forward instead of being left in limbo. Keep talking to us here on the forum and my best wishes to you ππ
Hi Sheila π my heart goes out to you β£οΈ you can climb back up, we're all rooting for you. Write your questions down so you don't forget to ask them. Sending hugs π€Love Lesley xxx
Thanks Lesley. I keep leaving messages on Respiratory answer phone. They came out and spent 2 hrs here . But all gone quiet now. I know they are very busy but a phone call would be suffice to put my mind at rest. I know there are other patients needing more help so have to try and understand.
Just want to get back to my old self . Thank you. You have a nice day xxSheila π€ππβ
So sorry this is not going well for you at the mo, and i hope things will improve asap. You are an inspiring lady and admired by many for your positive approach to life and your smartness. I love all the clothes you put pics of on here, and you always look good.
Thank you cabt even get dressed at moment. Hate this not being able to move around even with oxygen. Praying I get back there but I start doubting and this sets me back. Cant get my Positivity back at the moment. Take care good health xxSheila π€ππβ
I hope you get to the root cause quickly and get back to your usual self. My MDT wouldnβt like me reducing steroids if Iβm not well. I would also add steroids affect your mood a lot so may be not helping you. That said you are entitled to feel down with all youβre going through. Get well soon.
Thanks for your update, Garshe. Praying for you to come through this and recover quickly with the right diagnosis and treatments. In the meantime, keep putting one step in front of another to get through it all xx
Thank you I'm really trying but lost the will lately.depression has set in and feeling sorry for myself. I know this is not the correct path so have to try and sort it myself thank you take care xxSheila π€ππβ
Depression is a realistic response to difficult circumstances.
Try to be kind to yourself today. Get out the photo albums, enjoy the feel of those lovely scarves from India, look out of the window as you drink a cup of your favourite beverage and see the changes xx
Thereβs a really good App called Insight Timer with lots of free really good meditations to listen to.. different lengths of time, some for calming, positivity, helping sleep etc β¦maybe worth a try ?
Iβm so sorry to read you are not so well . Hopefully with all the support they will get to the bottom of it. Just try and take it slow , those shopping trips will come back really soon . Perhaps we could meet up on one of your shopping days . If Iβm well I donβt mind driving as long as itβs not in the in the rush hour traffic . Take care , you never know we could meet up and discuss shoes π€ these are my latest . The type of heel I can only wear from the car to a meal . No walking far in them ππ

I wish I could give you a miracle answer but what I can say is thank you for being brave enough to admit that you are scared if that makes sense. I often feel that I am the only one who doesn't handle the fear very well. xxx
I have always been able to control breathing but .this is not normal for me. I'm sure it's the thyroid meds as I have all the side effects. Problem no one is listening xxSheila π€πβπ
Yes TK 's boots cheered me up. Hope she enjoys wearing them. Only worn my new knew ones once. Hopefully I'll get back out there .thank you keep well xxSheila πβππ€
I didnt see your post as you moaning. Just telling us how you feel. It is a tricky situation when one health conditions clashes with one another. Incorrect thyroid medication dosage can play havoc with your body. Finger crossed it is sorted soon and you are back on track. X
Good morning garshe. Sorry to hear you are having such a bad and frightening time at present I know how you are feeling. It is frightening experience not being able to get your breath. And I have experienced it once only thankfully. But I watched my aunt struggling to breathe and it really upset me. I hope your increase of meds help you and you can get back to enjoying life again. Please keep us informed as to how things are going. Brian xx
This is not like you Sheila. Iβm worried for you. Iβm hoping the GP will help with more meds. So stressful, no wonder youβre depressed. I am sending healing thoughts to you. Diane x
Hi Sheila, sounds to me it could possibly be your levothyroxine level to high ,how long have you been levothyroxine and at what mgs ,the clue for me is high heart rate, you need another blood test to see what your thyriod levels are the med may need tweeking,I have been on this med 38 years
Hi Sheila, always read your posts although I may not reply π. Just wanted to say how I understand how you feel. I sometimes have problems with getting mucus up as far as back of my throat then it gets stuck. So so scary! I get very anxious and down about it so totally get how you are feeling right now. I was given the suggestion by another lovely member of this forum to inhale Vick in a bowl of hot water when this happens - it does help. Take care and hope you get your meds sorted asap. xxxx
Absolutely no need to apologise. this disease is the pits! You are with people who understand 100%. You have every right to be depressed. Thinking of you and hope you soon feel better.xxx
Sheila, you are the least moany of people, so it must be bad to pull you down like this. I hope your doctor can sort it out soon, or you will have to buy a lot of new smaller dresses once you are on the mend. I remember the awful panicky feeling the first time I had an asthma attack. We're all rooting for you and hoping and praying that there will soon be better news. ππππ
Hi garshe, Sheila as we get older lots of things change I hope you soon get a happy medium with the pills. Thyroid pills can cause funny goings on inside as can steroid reduction , it may take a while to get stable again but I am confident you will get there given time . Just think about where you can go when you feel better and what you can wear of course. Best Wishes , take care x
Hi Sheila , it might be an idea to go to the thyroid uk forum on health unlocked . They are a mine of Information on Hypothyroid and the Medications for it . They are Very Friendly , informative and helpful. Take Care Angela x
