Early morning rant

Apologies for this. Thought I’d water garden plants in the relative ‘cool’ of the evening yesterday. Bad burning smell outside. Dear neighbour had decided to light bonfire in dustbin, resulting in black cloud of smoke wafting over my garden! Tried to hold breath while watering then dashed back inside to close windows and door. Unsurprisingly, this hasn’t helped my nightly cough. Heaven knows what he was burning! So inconsiderate! Rant over. Have good day, everyone and stay safe in this heat.

Same here , not sure who it was might even be the other closes that back onto my garden. Its bad for lungs but also theres the smell, smoke and lack of care about others. My next door tenants were cleaning the back garden at 5am this morning, what a crazy world we live in guess they work shifts. It woke me up. They rent the house from an owner occupier and change every so many months.

Know the feeling our usual next door but one neighbour decided to have a bonfire last night that ended our night of sitting in the garden. Hubby rushed over to get washing in. So inconsiderate the air quality wasnt good for me. And bo fires definitely do t help

I have a neighbour that burns his garden waste and it lasts hours, it drives me potty , we asked him to put it into the green bin but he wont be told, i think he likes burning stuff . Its usually in the day so I suppose its better than the bedroom smelling of this and I can at least keep the windows open at night x

Maybe spraying the hose over the fence in the direction of the fire may have an effect. My neighbour lit a bonfire because he is trying to clear the garden to rent his house. I went out and shouted at him to put the thing out- in no uncertain terms! He got a skip!

If he was near enough I would spray him let alone the fire ha!

Nice one!

Don’t put up with it! Shout at them to put it out and spray the hose over the fence in the direction of the bonfire. Invasive behaviour requires guerrilla tactics!

I’m with Littlepom, we had a go at a neighbour once. I was incandescent with rage. People just don’t care. Our neighbours don’t burn anything now but we do still smell burning on some evenings from goodness knows where. Does your neighbour know about your breathing problems? If not, do tell him. Xxxxx

I think that you will find producing BLACK smoke is not permitted by many councils. It is the most damaging to health and the environment.

yes I've had it a few times even though the area is supposed to be smokeless afraid theres no easy answer if you complain to the council they cant be bothered and unless you know what property it's coming from isn't worth them sending somebody around.

A big thank you to everyone who replied. In fact, not really black smoke; sorry to mislead you. But very grey, so not good! The following evening, he managed to light a barbecue but fortunately just rescued my washing from the line in time! All gone quiet now. The extreme heat probably drove them indoors! They know about my condition as my coughing has disturbed them at night! Want to keep away from the official channels for now but if they do it again will follow all advice, probably including the water hose over the fence advice! Katie oxo absolutely right re "the lack of care about others." Think the parents have gone away and left the son to it. Have a safe week, all.
