Spent 2weeks in hospital end July early August with chest infection . Kept telling doctors my feet /legs were swollen but this was glossed over/ ignored. GP just done Pro BNP blood test which has come back abnormal (1148 ng/l) which I believe is high. He is referring me to Cardiology re heart failure. So annoyed. Why don’t they listen to their patients, could have saved time and discomfort for me if they had - grrrrr. Xxx

I agree! Took forever for my pulmonologist and cardiologist to connect the dots that my ankle edema was actually cor pulmonale!

The first time I realised my legs were swollen was when trying to pull on my trousers and found they were too tight. I am in the process of having tests which may be linked to heart problems, or kidney disease. When you mentioned your legs were swollen I was interested to find out if you are carrying water as my legs are puffy and painful. If so what will they do about it? Would it mean taking water tablets or maybe drain them. Let me know how you get on.

Have only seen my results online, hopefully will get a gp appoint when the surgery contact me. The Doc that ordered the blood test said it was water retention and gave me water tablets to take but they didn’t do anything to help. My legs/feet go down overnight but as soon as I’m shuffling about they swell again. Will let you know what treatment is decided. Take care xx

Oh my rsmrsnl .

I can well understand your frustration and I am so sorry for your dilemma. You are so right. Doctors should be listening. 😡 I hope you feel better very soon. Sending hugs.

Gives a good excuse to put the feet up occasionally during the day.

So good you kept insisting and finally got the blood test. Hope you get an early appointment with Cardiology.

Greetings all sorry to hear about your swollen feet and cardiac flag

I experienced the same problems 2 years ago with my exasperation. Turned out the swelling was from the steroids and false peptide. Heart was fine good luck with yours

I have had the same problem since January with the swelling going right to the top of my legs and the pain is horrendous. Been on water tablets way before this happened which haven’t helped. Going for an echocardiogram next Monday after complaining to my lung consultant at wythenshawe about them and he also arranged for a kidney function blood test. The blood test duly taken and that evening the doctor phoned that I had to go straight to hospiTal. I was anaemic and heamaglobin levels were dangerously low. 2 units of blood and an iron infusion done 1 further iron infusion done a week later and today bloods repeated to make sure its worked. Swelling is still there and have angina so we are thinking it’s heart related. Sorry about the long winded post but so angry that no one listened to me about my legs and I have suffered all this time. Hope yours soon get sorted.

Sorry to read about your problem. I had the similar. taken into hospital with HF and KF. on drip 7 2 hours as legs very swollen. repeatedly asked to see Lymph nurse but was told they do not do hospital visits. had row with consultant over it, and allowed home after a month.

When first out of hospital I rang the local community nurses as leg leaking and soaking dressing I had put on, and was told "Sorry, no nurses available Bank holiday weekend"!

Did see lymph nurse who started compression treatment and now have DN visiting 3 times weekly. In the last 6 weeks, my legs have gone down Calf when first started 33" circumference. Monday this week. 23" Lost around a stone in weight in just over 8 weeks- so one good thing has come from it. Breathing a little easier also. Able also to lift week without aid. all tests apparently clear now. Did complain about swollen legs over two years ago and was given compression stocking to help- pointless.

I would advise anyone with swollen legs to insist on being seen. I know some think too much hassle, or Dr busy enough but -perhaps if i had moaned more frequently, I would not be in so much pain, able to walk a little way, Ah hindsight. really is a good thing!!!!

hope you get some attention. and all take care. spooks.
