Sleeping difficulties & nose blocked
When I find this nose blocking trouble I use the old fashioned remedies of Vick ’s Rub up my nostrils and Fisherman’s Friend. Since we have to use enough drugs just keep our lungs happy, best to avoid any we can manage without. 😉
I had a similar problem for a long time. My GP recommended a steroid nasal spray which I took religiously for 18 months, with little effect. I was put on Montelukast for my asthma and within hours of my first dose I was able to blow my nose and breathe in fresh air through my nose. Wonderful!
There is a nose unblocking exercise you can try ....breathe in gently gently, breathe out gently gently.....not a big breath , a gentle breath....hold your nose, .....for a count of four if you can .....be careful , be gentle with yourself.....then release and breathe in gently, gently through your nose if you can .
Repeat a few times.
During the day, stop and notice if you are mouth breathing, then try and nose breathe gently to warm and filter the air.
Fisherman Friends original are great for breathing, not just through the nose. Also lying propped up like on several pillows can help. (Not necessarily help with blocked nose tho)
Hi, I suffer with blocked nose sometimes and when I do it is really bad that I can only breath though my mouth when sleeping. I have tried most things even prescribed nostril spray but no good for me I then found a sinusitis spray in Tesco called otrivine and wow it is like a miracle cure for me has my nose clears in seconds, but you must not use it for more then 7 days on the trot.

Your story sounds a bit like mine. I massage the sides of my nose to unblock it. I agree fisherman friends helps - a proper blow out. x
Hi MiFerna, do you take antihistimine tablets? the reason I ask is that I too am a mouth breather due to have allergies which cause my nose to be blocked most of the time. At present I am on 3 antihistine tabs as the pollen count has high. Do you use a steam inhaler? this helps and although I do not enjoy the process I do use it when I am suffering like you. If you feel any pain in your head or face you need to contact your doc as you may have sinusitis. Could it be that because you are in lockdown you are not getting enough exercise to make you as tired as usual. I too have found myself waking up in the night and I get up and read for an hour and then return to bed. To break the cycle I have been going to bed an hour or so later and I have found this helps. I only woke in the night once last week. Take care, Maximonkey
