Shielding letters

My husband is Palliative , he has Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis , Emphysema and Leaky heart valve and he attends the hospice . He hasn’t received a text or a letter . He informed our Gp via the econnect form and they came back saying to write again in 7 days . He did that yesterday and within two minutes the answer came back , ‘ well if you haven’t got a letter then you are not on the list ‘ .

How cold and lacking in any support was that !

So he wrote back , asking if they had checked his medical records and telling them his conditions which if they had checked on the system , they would have seen !

We haven’t yet had a reply back !

He has registered as vulnerable etc on the Gov site .

There is only the two of us , no family , no friends to help . We have a good community page if we need the odd thing .

We are disgusted with our Gp surgery as they know my husband well and his conditions , but that reply was just so cold and unsupportive .

Hello Daisy, as you say, very cold and unsupportive. No reasoning behind that. Please persist as your husband is clearly extremely vulnerable.

I wish you both well. Stay safe xxxx

Ring 0800 0288327 the governments dedicated helpline. If possible have his NHS number handy. They can help.

Sorry to read this. It must be very distressing to feel you have been overlooked. Please keep trying and stay safe. Use the community support that is available to you. Personally I haven’t found getting the letter, texts etc had made any difference apart from getting priority for online shopping at Sainsbury's and finally getting a slot for next week. If you’ve registered on the government website and ticked the box that you have no friends and family to do your shopping you should get a food parcel.

The hospice will advise you too.

Take care

X

There is a voluntary group called Covid19-Mutual Aid, you can contact them on Facebook but I would suggest that you ask your Palliative Care Team to make a referral for your husband as a referral form has to be completed. They are a team of volunteers who will do your shopping for you - they did for me and they were wonderful. I was actually referred to them by my Dietician as I am suffering malnutrition and muscle wastage due to the cancer treatment. Give it a go and good luck to you both.

Ah , that is very helpful also as my husband has lots of food supplements for disease malnutrition etc. Thank you so much xx❤️

Rude! To say the least hope they have now realised the mistake and get that letter pronto!

Could you perhaps write or telephone your local paper and explain your situation? It would certainly put your doctor in a bad light.
