I would like to say that i have been treated well here on portland in dorset. I have recieved about 8 texts from the nhs requiing me to stay at home for the next 12 weeks and a letter.. i was already aware of a great charity here that supports people in the community. They will do my shopping once a week.

They will also collect my prescriptions from the pharmacy.

So i feel very lucky that there are good kind people who are willing to give up their time to help others.

Big thank you to Island Community Action.

This is good news hopetorun and nice to hear that you are being looked after, it just needs to spread around the rest of the country now x

The government scheme is working here. I have had a phone call from my local council, a large box of free food and a letter informing me that I will be getting food every week. Very grateful to everybody and tired of reading the government bashing posts on here.

The people who are 'government-bashing' are usually just pointing out valid lacks that are evident (e.g. re testing of NHS staff for coronavirus etc.) OR the people who 'have fallen through the cracks' who, unlike your good selves, cannot get the badly-needed help they need. I'm sure we all applaud the efforts of the Government when they get it right.

Of course, the armchair critics would be sure to get such a huge adminstrative and logistical project right fitst time. I forgot that.

Very cynical

Unfortunately LP some of us have not been so well looked after and have heard nothing for 2 weeks now from the government,is it any wonder that we criticise them for that and other failings ?

It has to go through several layers of bureaucracy, from GPs and hospital clinics, the NHS, to local authorities and from there to those who volunteer to deliver and to internet supermarkets. All have differing amounts of knowledge and efficiency and some councils are smaller with less vulnerable people than others. Everybody has never had to cope with anything like this and are struggling to roll it all out. I do hope that you and the others on the forum who so obviously qualify, do find yourselves included soon. I had a tin of tuna in my box and would happily have donated to Scruffy Cat.x

Oh you are a love LP and Scruffy being a fussy sort of cat will gladly accept that offering as long as it is tuna in brine and not oil. :) xx

in reply toskischool

Definitely brine. I’m with Scruffs on the oil. 😝

Same here littlepom, I received a lovely box of food on my doorstep on Monday, and a courtesy call to ask if I had any problems with it. I can expect more supplies next week. As soon as I can get a slot for Sainsbury’s, I’ll cancel the delivery, and leave it for somebody more deserving.

That’s great to hear. I’m pleased you’re safe and being supported. Take care xxxx

I've also had a call checking to see if I'm OK and a box of food delivered. As soon I can get a delivery slot at the supermarkets, I will cancel. I feel very guilty accepting food parcels, I just wish the supermarkets would step up.

I feel like you too , but because of family circumstances it is a little difficult to manage as usual. And the telephone call is a lifeline if you are alone. 12 weeks is a long time without contact even though it may be saving yours and others lives. Hope some lessons will be learn't from this crisis that might be better options to adopt in future. Have a nice day

Thank you, we have several groups and Council in our city doing it too. It can be done with people who do care. x

Me too in Gloucestershire. Well cared for. Food has been delivered and had a phone call yesterday to ask if there was anything I needed. So caring.
