Good luck with it Don. I remember my mum having one of those, probably in 70's. I was always frightened of it when the steam started, thought it would blow up! 🤯🥺 I invested in a slow cooker a while ago, only trouble is you have to prepare HOURS before you need it 😂😂 but it is good for one pot cooking. Take care and happy cooking. The song 'under pressure' by Queen came to mind.
When I were a lad the butcher used to give bones away free. In fact my dog used to go and do her own shopping and she wasn't the only one, he had his regular customers.
Until it became fashionable to have bone broth I used to get it free from the butchers too. I love the fact that your dog used to visit the butcher for a bone x
The dog scene in the 1930's was so completely different, 'walking your dog' would have had people 🤣. You just opened the door and let them out. 🐕.........🍖
I have found I am frying to remember what I saw Granny do all those years ago. Have a slow cooker, and am trying to come to terms with a microwave, so no matter what food gets delivered I should be able to do something with it. I feel that it may be easier to get the very cheap cuts of meat from the supermarkets as not so many people know how to cook it.
Apparently the secret is the longer you cook it for, the more tender it will be. Doing that without burning it, which is what I had been trying to do, you need a slow cooker or a pressure cooker. A slow cooker is slow, and a pressure cooker is fast, that was my reasoning. What I now learning is that using a pressure cooker needs more skill than a slow cooker.
Quite a big book came with it and I've only read the introduction, which was enough to make me a little apprehensive. I won't be rushing into trying it, thank you. 😉x
When we first got a pressure cooker in the mid 70s. My husband 'in his wisdom' decided to give it a bit more cooking time than the booklet said. When he took the lid off, we had the beginnings of mashed potato! The potatoes were in small fragments.
Another great rhyme from a gentleman not averse to trying something new.
I had one many moons ago. If I want to be sure that meat, casseroles etc are tender now I slow cook them in the oven but a pressure cooker, once you get the knack of using it, gets a meal ready in a fraction of the time.
I wish you success in developing your culinary skills.
A terrific rhyme and we've got a very old pressure cooker, probably too old to risk using, but they are such a clean way of making so many tasty meals. You are transforming your kitchen with new gadgets and gizmo 's, so it will be interesting to hear which was your best, can't now do without, buy!! All in good time eh? 🐿💕
Now that's something my dear old Grandma used to say too!! She, like many of her era, always had an old wives tale or a tempting fate, doom & gloom saying that as children we'd listen to and laugh or cry because they scared us! 🐿💕
