Slightly higher blood pressure?

Just wondered if anyone had any answers really as I'm unsure about this. My blood pressure is usually nice and low, a fair bit below the 120/80 average. Had it done on a machine yesterday only as I happened to be doing height and weight thing. Anyway it was 132/84. Now I know this isn't particularly high but for me it's much higher than usual.

When I next see consultant I'll tell her and she'll no doubt get a reading. But I was wondering if I suppose the machine could be faulty but my weight and height were ok. I have had a stuffy nose cold lately and it's been very cold outside I know those things can make a difference. But for me that's a big difference so I'm mildly concerned I guess. I've only had a bunged up nose not a chest cough at all so I pretty sure I haven't got infection. Maybe it's the head cold and been very tired lately too, work not been great either.

Sorry to harp on like an idiot but this is never something I ever been concerned about before as it's always been so low in the past. Last had it taken 3 weeks ago when I had pneumonia vaccine and it was 115/72. You see so it's a lot higher for me.

Hi Shancock, that isn’t bad especially as it was probably a one off thing and the lower reading ( which, they tell me is the important one) was very close to your usual. . I have had this happen to me if I have been rushing to get to the place where I have it measured or I am mithered, busy, preoccupied or cross about something. Machines do differ also. It is good that you are going to see your consultant and I presume that you will be tested again. Try to take it easy over Christmas and not do too many things at once. I hope that you have a lovely Christmas.

Thank you, hope you have a lovely Xmas too. I certainly won't be over indulging this year due to mainly feeling nauseous with my GERD. Hopefully I'll make up for it next year!

I wouldn't worry. Mine is usually low, 105, but goes up if iam a bit anxious. Like just before my first angiogram when it was 140, high for me. Someone told the machines are designed for continuous monitoring and not being wheeled around. I have for the reading to be repeated if the value was a bit odd. That always gave me better result. I think blood pressure is just a quite vague indication

Hi Shancock .

It may be helpful to remember that our blood pressure is generally higher in winter and lower in summer. The cold weather causes our blood vessels to constrict, thus more pressure is needed for the blood to flow through our veins and narrowed arteries.

Your numbers aren't bad. But yes, talk to your doctor if you're worried. My blood pressure is always slightly elevated in winter.

Take good care
